Cake and dance.

So I managed to get $500 off my dream photographer and have her for 3 hrs on wedding day. My fiance and I couldn't afford a lot for our wedding but we're getting the best of both worlds since we'll have an awesome photographer (www.erinwallis.com) but are also play just over 1k for her.

Anyways... I've decided to get my artsy sister (and MOH) to take the getting ready pics and then we'll have the pro for the ceremony, bridal party, family, and couple pics, and well as the 1st hour of the reception. The reception will start at 3 and we are having finger foods and drinks in a casual, intimate venue.

Here's the question: Would it be OK to have us to annouced at around 3:15 and then go straight into the first dance? FH and I recorded an old love song that I love, I'm singing and he's playing the guitar/piano. After that we could have the cake..? Those are the main two things that I would pro photos of so it makes the most sense. How would the food fit into that? Would it be out already or should there be drinks only until after the cake?

I guess it's a bit awkward since it's not a full sit down meal.

I'd love some advice, this is seriously bogging my brain!

We are only having our photographer for 5 hours and I didn't want any getting ready pictures, except one of my mother finishing the last details of the dress. To make sure we take care of things we are:
1. Entrance
2. Dance
3. Cake Cutting
4. Dinner
5. Cake served (has been cut in the kitchen since)
6. Dancing if people like, mingling etc
7. Right before the photographers leave, bouquet toss.
8. Let the party continue :)

I guess we may do the dance right after dinner and desert but we really want to cut the cake right away so it will follow dinner immediately. We're not having a garter toss or speeches so there is no need to squeeze those in but you could do the speeches right after the cake cutting and then the garter toss with the bouquet toss right before your photographer leaves, perhaps?

That's what I'm planning to do. I'm in the same position, with the photographer for just 3 hours. My plan is to have the photographer for the ceremony and family pics, then guests will be told to take their seats in the reception area. We will be announced and have the first dance, parent/child dances, etc. Then, the toasts before dinner is served. I'm not sure if we'll cut the cake before dinner or not--I suppose that will depend on how the timetable is looking as we get closer to the wedding. Our photographer said we can opt to pay for another hour at any time including the day of the wedding, so if it looks like things will be too tight we may do that. I'm not too concerned with getting pictures of guests/myself dancing, since those pictures never seem to look all that classy to me anyhow.

My dad's an amateur photographer and he has some pretty decent equipment, so he'll be on hand with his camera to catch anything the pro photographer misses.

JuneBride I was going to suggest pretty much what Champagne is doing. Your grand entrance right into your first dance. Then the cake cutting (for photos) but do not serve the cake until an hour or two into the reception. Typically people wait for cake to be served before they leave.

We went straight into our first dance right after we were announced. Then we had our speeches. Then dinner, some dancing for all the guests then the mother son dance and father daughter dance followed by cake cutting, bouquet toss and garter toss.
