We just had a large fresh peony on top of ours. I can't post photos from my phone, but they're in my bio. I think it worked well, even with our large, four-tiered cake.

This is the inspiration for my cake. I thought a topper would take away from the cake design.

This is the inspiration photo 3359008-1

(FI is from England, so bottom layer will be London. I'm from Minneapolis, our middle tier and he proposed while we were in Paris, the top tier. I'm also having the background in ivory and the cityscapes in eggplant... our colors.)

I didn't have a cake topper, the design had a lot going on, it didn't need one. It was topped with a fondant applique on top, which was flat so my photos don't even show it. But it was a nice detail when you stood over it.

And nice Fritz1215! I actually had a similar cake and similar story (having the cities where we are from)

We're having a rice krispie cake and I'm putting a topper on it - it's in my bio.  The groom's cake will be red velvet (square) and it's going to say "And they lived happily ever after" on the side and my florist will decorate the top with red roses.
