Can my mother walk me down the isle? What about father - daughter dance?

My father is no longer in the picture and I am wondering what the thoughts about a mother walking the daughter down the isle. And does any one have any ideas for who I could dance with if my groom wants to dance with his mother?? Please Help! Thanks :)

Yes def!  Lots of PW brides have had mom's walk them down the aisle, in some religions both parents walk the bride down the aisle- you could dance with your mom too!  It had been done :-)  Also if not an uncle, grandpa or your new FIL.  HTH!

i was just at a wedding where the bride's father had passed away...so she had her mom walk her down the aisle, so sweet. Personally, i am having both my father and brother walk me down the aisle, so if you have a sibling, you could have them walk you down. (or you could always just walk alone, i believe more brides are doing that these days) Also, she danced with her grandpa, which was very sweet. (you could dance with an uncle, brother, or family friend)

You can totally have your mom walk you down the aisle.  It is the new norm and has been done so so so many times.

You can totally have photo 3143149-1

As far as you dancing with your mom while your new DH dances with his mom, it would be so great.  See pics.

My mom can't stay on her feet very long, and so I don't know how a dance would go, but she is definitely walking me down the aisle.

My parents divorced when I was 10, and my father died when I was 19.  (Every 9 years something big happens...now in the year I'm 28, I'm getting married.  :) )

But yes.  The walking down the aisle is a totally symbolic thing, and so whatever you choose to do is not a problem.

If anyone else has a problem with it, they'll get over it.

She can definitely walk you down the aisle, or you can walk by yourself. It is your moment after all- all eyes just on you. And sure, you can dance with her. There are no rules!

what about instead of doing a mother/daughter dance you could do a surprise photo slideshow for you and your mother and after the father daughter dance you could do the mother/daughter video...I say this because I myself thought about doing this instead of a father/daughter dance. (me and my dad havent been very close) :)

As far as walking you down the Isle I say TOTALLY do it!! both my parents are walking me down!:)

My mommy walked me photo 3143526-1

My mommy walked me down! She didn't give me much choice, honestly.

The "giving the bride away" tradition seems to have shifted more to honoring someone who's really been there for you, and in my case that was my mom. I asked my brother and he laughed at me.

As for dancing, many ladies have done a mother/daughter dance! There's also siblings, uncles that have been there for you, grandparents, etc.

Totally!  You can also dance with your mom.  A friend recently got married and her father had passed away... she danced with her mom... very touching.

Absolutely ok.  It's your wedding day and you should be able to do what makes you happy and comfortable.  I'm walking down alone, but will have my mom waiting at the end of the aisle to 'give me away'.  My dad passed away 2 years ago and it's just to hard to envision someone else walking me down the aisle.  I am planning on dancing with my mom for the 'father/daughter' dance; we'll be dancing to a song my dad recorded that he and my sister danced to at her wedding.

Thank you all for the replys! I loved the pictures of the Mom walking down the isle and I am now for sure that I will be doing that, and the dance looks like a great idea! It is also nice to hear that I am not alone in not having a close father!

Absolutely, your mother can walk you down the aisle.  It would be a wonderful honour to both of you and your relationship.

Most definitely!

There are no rules, you do whatever you want for anything on your wedding! I was going to have both parents walk me down, but my mom decided she wanted that to be a special moment for my Dad and I, so DH and I honored both our moms with roses during the ceremony.

I also didn't have anyone give me away, my Dad walked me down, hugged us both and that was that!

You can have anyone you want walk you down the aisle.  I asked my grandparents to...they both raised me and were equally important.  We decided not to do the dances though...we only did our first dance.

You can have anyone photo 3143684-1
