Can't sleep... work/career stuff bothering me

Ugh it's 3am and I need to get up in less than 5 hours for work. I can't sleep at all because I'm worried about work and career paths for me and my husband (plus I ate a lot of greasy chinese food). I won't get into too many specifics (or risk sounding whiny). I'm feeling kind of down right now... and I was wondering if anyone else ever feels this way too sometimes?

It doesn't cause me to not sleep, but I often worry about finding a new job that will pay enough for me to afford to live where I work. It usually helps to stop worrying if I talk it out and set up some actions to take.

It happens to me all the time...so then I get all jittery...and wiggly and I go downstairs to zone out on tv...and it doesnt help...so I feel your pain I just have no suggestions for you...I wish I could help..but I do find drinking a mug of milk is somewhat calming.

I've been feeling this way a lot. Work is becoming very overwhelming with project upon project starting to pile up. Sometimes it makes me just want to run away :)Well not really, but sometimes that stay at home wife thing sounds really good.

Haha, I agree with you Wilcox. But then I realize how bored I would be with the stay at home thing. Which is probably why I want to be in business for myself! But I digress...

I agree. Sometimes I joke about being a housewife in the future, but I know I would go insane.

I occasionally have problems sleeping cause my mind races and I get obsessive over things, also my schedule is hectic. Over time, I've learned to turn some of those things off. I write them down in a notepad so that I can address them at a later time and just to get it off my mind. It works for me, perhaps give it a try. =)

Yeah, I agree with pp. When I'm feeling very restless, I'll write everything I'm thinking of just to get it out of me, and that's actually helped me feel better and less anxious.

Oh yes, I have felt that way many nights but eventually my body is so tired that I just fall asleep. I am like "deeinthenola", my brain/mind races and I get obsessive over things too. So I have a little note pad next to my bed and if I think of something right before I go to bed or even in the middle of the night, I just write it down. I also blog, which is very helpful in getting things off my chest too.

Maybe you should take a warm bath right before you go to bed. It will relax you and definitely will help you fall asleep.

Now I really feel your pain. Hurrican Dean is hitting and my main client is a non profit agency. We have relief efforts in full swing, which means I'm working 12 hour days. At least it's all for a good cause.

Thanks ladies so much! You're all so supportive and I love you for it! I think you're right, I should do things to de-stress and just let go. :)

I used to have insomnia....really bad, I would stay up for days at at a time, so believe me I can sympothise. Drink decaff tea and take a hot shower before going to sleep, it will help you unwind.

Before I got help, I used to take Nyquil, I know it's not the best thing to do, but try going 7 days without sleep...you get desprite.

I'm also going through work stress myself. I sell my work in galleries, but it's just not enough, being an artist my options for work are limited, I refuse to do something I hate just to make money. Most art related job openings are for graphic designers and require you to know computer programs...me and computers don't mix very well =P. So I'm starting my own business. I'm not very good at taking orders from people anyway, so why not?! Maybe you can look into starting your own business too? Just a thought.

Feel better =)
