Can't wait for my new place...
I am so sick of this apartment. I have less than 6 weeks left here, but this whole moving process is going to kill me!!!
The good about my current place: It's cheap, and it was available when I needed one at an odd time of year. It's only a few minutes from my work.
The inconvenient: No dishwasher, teeny tiny kitchen, no on-site laundry. Lately the neighbors have been kind of loud. Occasionally the parking is bad. My living room is very narrow and the apartment is a modified studio so there's not a lot of space--there are a few tubs of things that never got unpacked because there's no room.
The ugly: As soon as the weather got warm (last year and this year) the bugs came out. When I moved in I saw a few roaches--they came and sprayed especially for them, and FI & I put out some roach bait and they went away. I think it's because the last tenants were filthy and then the apartment sat empty for a few months, but still. There are ants in my bedroom--they seriously invade through the window. Last summer/fall I referred to my apartment as Bug Central because they would just march across the floor--all kinds of bugs! All shapes and sizes! Huge ones!
Also, it SMELLS frequently. I'm pretty convinced it must be something in the walls/carpet, because it's not a food/cooking smell, it's not a "I should have taken out the trash 3 days ago" smell, and it centers around my front door/living room, not in the kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom. It's a gawd-awful, nauseating smell that gives me headaches. I try to air out the apartment when it's nice outside, but there's only so much I can do. It keeps coming back.
So, I found a new apartment. It's adorable, not too much more than my current place, it has a dishwasher AND a washer/dryer IN UNIT, I have a designated parking space, the kitchen is larger... I can't wait to move in.
Except I don't know when I can.
Technically my new lease starts on June 1. At my work, the Friday before and the Tuesday after Memorial Day are two of the busiest days of the year. This year? That would be May 28 and June 1. I absolutely can NOT miss work on the 1st. I have to be out of my current apartment by noon on the 31st--and I have to have the carpets professionally cleaned before move-out. (I must show a receipt from a professional cleaning company; I can't rent a Rug Doctor and do it myself.) This means that ideally, I would have all of my stuff out of the apartment by the end of the day on May 30th--and that's IF I can find a carpet cleaner who will work on Memorial Day. If not, I'll have to get my stuff out even sooner.
I have called my new landlords as well as submitted a request, in writing, wanting to know if there's any way I can move in early. They told me when I called that it depends on the current tenant, and that they would check with her and get back to me. I called 2 weeks ago; I sent in the second half of my deposit last week with the written note/request. Still no word. These landlords are just a family that owns some rental property--not a big company. I understand that they have kids and jobs and lives, but still!
I NEED TO KNOW when I can move in! If I can't get in before the 1st, I have to figure out where to keep an entire apartment's worth of stuff for over 24 hours. I need to rent a moving truck or van, probably, if that's the case. I need to schedule the carpet cleaning and switch over my utilities. This is a college town, so June 1 and August 1 are the two biggest times of year for moving--all of these services are going to be booked up EARLY. I don't want to be that person that waits until the last second and can't get anything they need. I am at the mercy of my new landlords and I HATE IT!!! Just tell me when I can move in, PLEASE!!!!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!! Is it that hard to make a phone call to the new tenant and then call me back???? I don't want to harass my new landlords and get on their bad side but I'm going to be screwed pretty soon if I don't get answers!!!!!!!
