Does anyone have experience with this lens?
not this one, but I do have the 24-70. not as long, but I don't think I could use a lens slower than 2.8. f/4 doesn't do much for you in low light. do you plan to use flash?
I don't have a flash yet. looking to buy the 580EXII. I'm just trying to figure out what lens to get next and probably will get the 24-70 in December. I know the F4 will be much slower (especially in low light) than the 2.8. What about the 28mm 1.8?
Do you need that much of a zoom? If you plan to shoot from a long distance, like wild life or discrete street shooting, then you need the longer zoom. In that case, you can't be too picky about f-stop because that's just the physical limitation of the zoom lens, unless you go for a prime lens instead. If you plan to get 24-70, then you probably don't need 24-105.
What do you plan to shoot the most? You should figure out what zoom-range you need and go from there instead. Since I have a crop body, I find 50mm enough of a zoom for my photography habits.
I don't have 28mm 1.8, but I have 10-22mm and it's handy for architecture shots. It's also pretty fun for baby portraits if you like a little bit of the distort effect on the baby. If you have 10-22 and 24-70, you've got pretty much all ground covered!
I plan to shoot weddings, portraits and boudoir. I have the 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8 (with the cheap 18-55IS on back up) and want another lens but don't want to wait to buy the 24-70. I have the Canon 60D which is a crop but don't really want to buy an EFS lens. I need something with a wider angle on a crop body.
What about the 17/40L F4?
If you're shooting indoor portraiture, personally I would recomment making a fast lens your priority. I even find 2.8 too slow sometimes! And like yelp said, unless you're looking for length, the 24-70 should work great for you. Not sure about the 28 1.8 - never used it.
What about a prime for a crop sensor? I have the 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8 already.
For a crop sensor I would recommend going for a wide angle - if you hear good things about the 28, that might be a good choice for you. It will actually behave more like 45mm. Your 50 is performing more like what your 85 should be doing. Multiply any focal length by 1.6 and that's about what it is on a crop sensor.
ditto jackie :)
I've been eyeing the 28 1.8, I want that lens!! :) Ditto to some PP, I'd avoid the 24-105 if you plan on getting the 24-70 2.8/L.
I think my next lens is going to be the 28 1.8. I'll let you know! Thanks.
