Canon 550D Rebel T2i

Oh-my-god!  It's half of price of 7D with the only disadvantages (that I kinda care about) that it has 9 AF points as opposed to 19, and 3 FPS as opposed to 8FPS, and some other things that I couldn't care less about.  It's a lot lighter too!  Not sure if it's weather proof like 7D though.

I'll wait for a few weeks for more hands on review and comparisons, but it looks really good on paper!  I'd be so excited if I could save a thousand bucks for a lens!

I guess it all depends on what you are going to shoot with the camera. It's a decent day to day camera I suppose.

9 AF points is very old. I'm surprised that Canon still tries to ship cameras with that old of an autofocus system. It almost borders on laziness.

18 mp. Good, if not a bit overkill. Unless you plan to print a lot of 26x36 prints those 18 mp will have no other purpose than to simply burn a hole through your hard drive space very fast.

Video. Have you tried shooting video with a camera? It is a nightmare. If you want to shoot video, go buy a video camera  :)

I almost hate to say this, but at that price, I rather go just get a nikon :P  Well, assuming you don't have 1000s of dollars of canon lens already.

I agree with the 9 AF points.  However, i'm so used to it now I don't find that to be a deal breaker.  It does irk me that canon is so behind in the AF department.  The only reason I haven't bought this camera is I'm still kinda hoping they'd release 60D with 19 AF points, oh and I really don't like Rebel's body.

And yeah, I'm too heavily invested in canon lenses to switch now haha!

You use yours professionally? I'm just a casual shooter, at home with my baby or on vacation. I def want more than a pocket PAS, and the xsi was a great learning camera, I just don't think I have the skills for a 'full bells and whistles' camera.

What makes the 7D so much better? As an amateur would I need whatever the 7D has to offer?

I am trying to be a pro-photographer... so for what I need it for, the 7D focusing system is amazing.  If you are just wanting casual shooting, definitely get the T2i.  It is a GREAT camera and is so much lighter to take on vacation, etc. :)   I just need something a little more "hefty" with the work I do, so that's what I was commenting on!  The focusing system and sharpness are needed with what I do, but you won't notice the difference if you are a casual shooter.
