Canooknic is back....RECAP!!
My sister arranged a girlie day at her house for us, our Mom and my two best friends. She had her nail technician over to do our nails, and give us massages - it was so good!
We went out for lunch and a couple of cocktails before heading to a friend's acreage for supper. When we arrived it was actually a surprise Bridal Shower for me!! I don't think I have ever laughed so much in one evening. They gave me lots of gardening tools and a watering can full of 'seed money' to pay for our back yard to be finished! I love them all so much!
Once again my sister was spoiling me by hosting a pre-wedding BBQ at her home. We invited our guests from England plus some of our friends that we have made since moving to Canada. It was such a fun night with amazing food and a lot of laughter again!
Time to leave for the mountains!!! Our little convoy headed off and met up half way for brunch. As we got closer to the mountains the weather turned and we had terrible rain storms (time to start panicking!), but by the time we actually arrived in Jasper it was beautiful blue skies and sunshine.
After catching up with my brother & FSIL for a coffee we decided to grab take-out and head back to our cabin to get the boys to bed early. As we walked in I had a sudden hideous realization - Chris' pants were still in our closet at home!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freak out time! He drove back into town at lightspeed in search of a new pair (keep in mind that Jasper is a small mountain town so the chances of finding ANYTHING was slim!). After about an hour he called me, close to tears, to say that he couldn't find anything. I stayed calm (no idea how!?!?) and told him it didn't matter, he could wear shorts or jeans that he had brought with him but as we were talking a lady from the last store (literally, the last clothing store in town!) came running down the street to him to say she had found a pair of brown cords in her stock room!! oh the relief!
When Chris got back to the cabin (after a quick beer to calm himself down with some friends that were in town) my bestie and I headed off to our cabin and spent the evening drinking wine and playing card games together.
Friday - THE WEDDING!!
We woke up at 7am to gorgeous sunshine and bright blue skies. We bummed around for a little while before showering and then realised that with all the pant drama the previous night we had forgotten to go to the store to get breakfast supplies! Luckily (once again) my sister was on hand to provide tea & toast....and the hairdryer that I forgot to bring with me!!
When I arrived at the ceremony site the weather couldn't have been more perfect. It tends to be pretty windy there but we just had a really gentle breeze. I was so happy.
I heard the first notes of 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol and knew it was show time!! When Chris saw me he absolutely fell apart - I have never seen him so emotional! Our boys were standing by his side with our rings tied on ribbon around their necks, they looked absolutely adorable!
The ceremony was basically a blur of tears and laughter, Chris barely got his vows out and our guests were all blubbering! Before I knew it we were husband and wife!
After lots of wonderful photos we sent our guests off for a scavenger hunt around Jasper - they had to get lots of photos of themselves doing silly things like dancing with a stranger, pumping gas, and being a store window display - it was hilarious! Chris and I went for a walk and then to the restaurant for a quiet drink, just the two of us - it was so nice just to sit and enjoy the moment.
Everyone joined us at the restaurant for our meal which was wonderful and then it was time to get on the tour bus and head off for a bit of sightseeing. We had a bit of bubbly, lots of giggles and a bear sighting before arriving at the spot where Chris proposed 6 years before.
Chris made his speech and then it was time for my bestie to do hers. She decided to write a poem instead of doing a traditional speech and there wasn't a dry eye - even our bus driver shed a tear!!
We went back into town and the party began! Just a couple of lovely bars and lots more laughter and silly photos.
The entire day was exactly how we had imagined it; completely relaxed, no stress, lots of laughter. I am one very, very happy wifey!!!!!
