Celebrating Anniversary's

So by the time of the wedding FI and I will have been together for 11 years and celebrated the same anniversary every year...Sep 26th.  So now after the wedding I assume we won't do that anymore.  Do any of you plan to keep celebrating your previous anniversary?  I know it doesn't make sense to have 2 anniv every year but I'm so attached to Sep 26th now.

(sorry if i spelled anniversary's wrong, is it with ies or 's oh well)

eh, i think once we're married we'll just celebrate the wedding anniversary.  i'm sure for a while we'll acknowlege it, like oh honey, today is july 19, the date of our first date!  but as for making it a big deal, probably not.

I think we will still continue to celebrate our current anniversary (Dec. 9) because we usually treat it as our own private Christmas (our anniversary presents just double as our Christmas presents to each other) - it's nice to have a little holiday to ourselves amidst the hectic holiday season.  For our wedding anniversary, I think we'll just skip the presents and just do a yearly trip or mini-getaway.

I've been thinking about this too lately.  I doubt we'll celebrate our "dating" anniversary.  About 2 1/2 months after our wedding will be our 5th anniversary of being together.  I think we'll acknowledge that one, but after that, I'm sure we'll stick to just our wedding anniversary.

LOL...Jess, it took me years for my FI to come around to celebrating our anniversary.  He has "2" birthdays....I know weird.  His actual birthday is Christmas Eve.  As you can imagine, not the best day to celebrate.  His brother and sister are twins and their birthday is a week before so he still can't get his "own" day even if we try to plan a little early.  Then with families, holiday parties...blah, blah, FI's family designated a day in September as his "fake" birthday.  When my FI was reluctant to celebrate our anniversary I told him to consider it my "second" birthday...lol!  He finally got it.

that sounds like a good idea JD.  i know i'll have to let it go eventually.  maybe we won't do presents or a trip or anything fancy.  just flowers or a nice dinner or something.

sorry jess to hear that!  hehe well he can't deny the wedding one though right?  nic--that's such a cool story!

OUr first date was November 1. My fiance proposed to me the following year on November 1st and we're getting married on our 3rd year Anniversary (november 1st) I guess for us, that problem is solved.

MissQ we were in a similar situation as you. Our wedding was in October of last year, but in January was our 10 year anniversary. I made it clear to DH that I wanted to make a big deal out of it and he was cool with that... especially since he owed me a trip from a couple of years before. We talked about going away for the weekend. But because it was January, everywhere we would have wanted to go was dealing with insane weather. Plus, I woke up with the flu that day. I'm still pissed and disappointed that we didn't do anything and I'm hoping he'll make up for it with our 1st anniversary this year.

I don't think we'll continue to celebrate our dating anniversary like we used to. Especially since it's in January. If anything, I'll probably make a nice dinner on that date to remind him how long we've been together.

us too! Our anniversary is in April and we're getting married in March (as you know of course ;) ). I don't think we'll be celebrating our 3 years after we've been married for a month.
