ceremony and reception music

Howdy! So I'm playing in a string quartet for an upcoming wedding and we're working with the bride and groom on their music selection for the processional, recessional, and reception. We've recommended traditional pieces such as Pachabel's Canon in D, Jesu Joy, and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. My experience w/ wedding music selection is rather limited, so I was wondering what other couples have chosen and why.

Hi Flora!

Here are some pieces that might sound nice:
Claire de Lune
Canon in D
Trumpet Voluntary
Ava Maria-acoustic version

You can even have some contemporary music too:
So This is Love
When You Wish Upon a Star (instrumental)
Only Hope (instrumental)
At Last (instrumental)
Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

Ooh! I'm thinking about a beach wedding and now that you bring this up, a string quartet would be so cool to have on the beach! I don't know if I will be to convince a quartet to wear tuxes and no shoes though.

I don't know that much about classical music so I don't know what exact songs I would want. I love Jesu Joy. I think I would want songs with a very mellow feel, but have a catchy melody. I imagine people sitting around smiling and lightly bobbing their heads to the quartet as they wait for the ceremony to start =).
