***CLAYTONANDSHAUNA Recap Part II: Ceremony
For part one go here.
We car-pooled to the chapel, Mark with Liz & DJ; Rachelle with Cara & Stan and me with Mom and Dad. We needed their very large truck to fit me, in the dress and train extended without (hopefully) getting wrinkled. It took both mom and dad to get me into the truck, arrange the dress and shut the door (how many people does it take to get a bride into the vehicle?).
It was starting to sprinkle a bit on the way there but held off long enough for us to arrive. Thankfully everyone had arrived by the time we got there. All I can say is I'm so happy we had a DOC, she helped organize us with the boutonniere's, corsages and bouquets.
Mom and Dad stood sentinal on either side of the doors while everyone entered.
MOH Rachelle's daughter was cute as a button with her little white dress, angel wings and princess wands. She took her role very seriously and walked slowly down the aisle, all smiles and giggles.
My sister, the bridesmaid, Cara, walked down next; looking all beautiful and smiles.
Bridesman Mark, looking dapper in his suit was second.
Then Rachelle, looking beautiful and proud.
next was me, Mom on my left and Dad on my right we walked down arm in arm while I tried to hold it together. I was teary-eyed as I looked through the crowd and saw all of my friends and family, smiling and looking happy.
When we reached the front mom and dad eached kissed my cheeks and then Clay came up and met us, looking so handsome in his highcollar whites. He shook hands with Dad, gave mom a hug and a kiss before offering me his arm. Mom accidently stepped on my dress but sat down as soon as she realized! We walked forward and the met padre at the front.
I am so grateful for both the padre and Clay's BM, Pepper. The Padre for being so confident and having such a strong voice and Pepper for just looking so pleased. I was able to hold it together so when we spoke our words it was in a confident voice.
The padre had our families and then the congregation speak their support of us then we had our vows. All I remember of the vows was answering "I will, with the help of God" and then Clay speaking the ending of his vows, "blood of my blood..." When Clay was holding my hands his were so clammy, he was so nervous. He put the ring on my finger and actually had trouble sliding it all the way on. His ring is Claddagh and I had to ask him was it the point of the heart that faced him (it was).
When the padre presented us to everyone it was Clayton and Shauna Hickey. Everyone waved their wands and we made our way back down the aisle to my friend, Monique's irish jig on the cello.
We had an impromptu receiving line as everyone made their way out.
By the time we finished the clouds were starting to lift and it wasn't raining at all. We did all the family portraits at the chapel before everyone heading over to the dockyards and the Admiral's House.
At the Admiral's house we were all actually able to drive onto that part of the base, we had one of the commissionaires escort us and stayed there while we did the pictures. It was windy, chilly and sunny as anything and we had a great time.
