Clomid/PCOS questions

So my DH and I are on our 9th month of TTC and getting a little frusterated to say the least. About 3 months ago I have an ultra sound and my OB said that it "looks like" I have PCOS. I have a follow up pap appt with her next week and plan on asking her to run my blood work to test me for PCOS. I was told by someone else on here that bloodwork is the only was the be diagnosed with PCOS...is that correct?

At my last appt she recommended I take Clomid, but I told her I wanted to wait. I am really nervous to take Clomid. I know a lot of you ladies have, I was just wondering what your side effects are while taking it.

Yes, bloodwork is one of the ways to confirm PCOS.  :)  Other symptoms might indicate you have it, but your hormone levels are what will confirm it.

Did she see cysts then?  What are your other symptoms?  Are you having a regular period right now?  I would just do the Clomid thing and try not to worry too much, women on here have had luck with it.  Myself included.  I'm not going to sugarcoat things; I was a she-devil while I was on it.  It dried out my skin and hair, and DH and I had to use Preseed because it also dries out your lady parts.  BUT, if it leads you to becoming pregnant, isn't that worth it?!? :)

Allie-Thanks for you help. She did see cyst. Her comment when I asked if I had PCOS was "well it depends what angle you look at the photos (ultra sound photos)" The only symptoms I have is irregular periods. I am not over weight, have facial hair or anything else. My cycles are just all over the place, anyway from 25-45 days

I don't know about the only way, but my endo confirmed that I had pcos though bloodwork.  For me it was both hormone level and insulin resistance, but I have other symptoms as well and have probably had pcos all my life and just not known it.  I'd probably ask your OB to confirm it.

If it is PCOS, you may need more than just Clomid. I had to take Metformin to help regulate my hormones. I conceived with 150mg of Clomid but I honestly don't think it would have been possible without being on Metformin. Good luck with your appointment!

Blood tests along with ultrasounds and your health history can determine if you have PCOS or not.  There is no definite lab result that will say you are positive or negative for PCOS....it's a whole bunch of different factors.

I have PCOS also and we were started on Clomid and Metformin first. I didn't respond to clomid so after 2 cycles I was changed to femara. I believe I had some hot flashes when I was on the 2nd cycle of clomid.

Take a look at all of your options. Having PCOS doesn't mean that you can't have a baby. It will just take a little more time :) Good luck on your appointment!

I had a blood test to confirm it and my OB wanted me to do an ultrasound to see if I had cysts- I have very few and they are super small so she said that was a good thing. I am only on BC and Metformin for now, we are not TTC just yet... while taking metformin I didn't miss my period the first month, but now within my second month on the pill I have missed my period...I have read that metformin can be a cause for this.

Ladies... if you are on metformin.. have your dr give you a glucose test to see if you really need metformin.. my drs thought i needed it but since it wasnt helping they decided to do the glucose test and realized that i do not need metformin.. they had me on the maximum too.. 2000mcg.. that medicine sucks and you shouldnt have to be on it if you dont need it..

Also.. My RE said that Femara is better for women with PCOS than Clomid is.. I think most suggest Clomid bcuz its really cheap compared to Femara.

Also.. If you dont have an RE I might suggest getting one.. We first tried me on prometrium to try to get me to get my period but my body went crazy on prometrium and i litterally spotted almost every day for like 2-3 months it sucked.. so now we have a me on BC for 2 1/2 month then off to do our trial runs with Femara...

Goodluck though!
