Colored Wedding Dresses

Has anyone decided to wear a colored wedding dress (not ivory or white)? I'm considering choosing a non-traditional color and would like to hear from anyone who has already made this decision and what factors they considered. Thanks.

My FMIL suggested it since I'm limited to stark white. I don't know, its definately something to consider, if I did it I would go with a dusty rose most likely, although I do like the pale blue dresses

There are some GORGEOUS dresses in color out there! Check out Maggie Sottero for sure...I just added some blue one to my blog:
http://ladivinaevents.blogspot.com/

I originally considered wearing an orange dress, but pretty much everyone poo-pooed the idea. I really wouldn't have cared, except that my FI mentioned that he'd really like to see me as a traditional bride (in white or ivory). Since I had been married before, I wasn't into it, but he wanted it and I got on board. Down to the veil. In the end I am glad that I did. I really feel like this is my first marriage (the other one was a joke!) so when we're old and gray and I see photos of us, I won't wonder..."why did I wear that orange dress?!??!"

That said, I love the colored gowns out there...Sottero has beautiful ones. So does Christina Wu. Bonny Brides and Alfred Angelo has some great ones that are white/ivory with hints of color.

I say try some one and see if you like them. I see a lot of brides who go red or pale blue, pink, silver and gold. Some bring the color in on a sash. How much color are you thinking? One look I like is when the bride is in color and the maids are in ivory. That's very old world European! Lots of pre-Victorian brides wore blue! Find some photos for inspiration...

Colored dresses are all the rage right now. Reem Acra has tons of them. If you can rock it in color I say go for it.

Thanks ladies - all good advice and suggestions. I was looking at some of the pastel colored dresses (pale green, pale blue, pale pink) but sometimes I think I might look too much like I'm going to the prom instead of the altar. Or that I'm not the bride at all! But I look terrible in white/ivory so I'm searching alternatives. I checked out some of the sites mentioned above and also found that there are many alternatives in off-shades like champagne, oyster, creme, etc. and I may try some of them too. I think that I will ask one of the girls to take a photo of me in the various colored dresses to see how it looks against my skin. I'm slightly worried that the beige-type shades may make me look washed out. Any other suggestions or references to websites are greatly appreciated!

Hey Nova,

I thought I was gonna have the same problem, I am pale pale pale...so I got my dress in Ivory. Once I actually put the dresses on....I felt like a princess and my paleness was out shown.

my dress is an antiqued pale pink called "blush". The actual fabric and waistbelt is blush, and then the lace overlay is ivory. It looks very pretty and antiqued. its from casablanca (casablancabridal.com), spring 2005 style 1772. I will be wearing an ivory veil with it to match the lace, and that brings alot of brightness to my face. I love it!!!!

My friend wore a bright red dress and it was beautiful! Colors are a big surprise if you can keep it a secret!

I just bought my dress last weekend, not the same one in my profile *smiles* I changed my mind, and it's a soft gold. I decided that white wasn't my color and asked to see what else was available, I'm so happy I did!!! Now the fun part is shoes *L!

it's good to have another color for a wedding dress. that is if you don't want to go with tradition. it isn't bad to get a colored dress at all! ^^ i'd even say go for it!
find a wedding dress in this collection!
