Confessional: I Wasn't Gonna Do It...

...but then I went and did it! Boudoir pics, that is. When I saw Danielle Biel of SkyeBlu Photography was offering a free session, the bargain shopper in me couldn't resist - so after some consideration, I volunteered, even though I do not by any means have a perfect body and it was a terrifying prospect for me. The session took place yesterday, and WOW!!!! It was AMAZING!!!! It was an incredibly happy, fun, liberating, confidence-giving adrenalaine rush of an experience. If any of you ladies are on the fence about doing it, I really encourage you to go for it. And I can't recommend Danielle enough - she knows exactly what she's doing and has an incredible eye. I got to watch another girl's session before my own, so I got a good sense of how she works and could really see how the minor adjustments and suggestions she made throughout the shoot made a huge difference. Once I get the digital proofs, I'll post one of the less revealing ones. Woo hoo! I'm still all pumped the next day!

Fun! I had a friend who is my mother's age do that for her 20th anniversary. I have to say she is naturally in WAY better shape than I am! It sounded like a really great experience because she was telling me about how empowering it was and how much more comfortable she felt with her body after seeing the pictures!

Tmcconne - Wow, yours turned out great! You must be so happy, and your FI is going to love them. I can't wait to get the proofs, but since Danielle shoots on film, it could be as long as 3 weeks...

Champagne - I don't even need to see the pictures to feel so much more comfortable with my body - walking around in my underwear in front of four complete strangers armed with cameras did the trick! I hardly slept the night after I committed to doing it, and I had enormous butterflies in my stomach all day before the session, but once it started it was so easy to just throw caution to the wind and go for it. We ended up getting really adventurous, and it was the absolute best!

Yay, Kohler - I'm so glad you're doing it too! LOL about the outdoors part - if you can believe it, we ended up crawling out the window of Danielle's studio onto the roof of the adjacent building for part of the shoot (a first for Danielle) - and it's really cold in SoCal right now! But it was all part of the fun. BTW, I don't know if you already know what lingerie you're going to use, but I found an awesome bra and bustier at Nordstrom - who knew? Be sure to post after you do it!

Aching, thanks so much for your post!! I'm doing a boudoir session too, and I am SOOO nervous!! So, it's great to know that you felt at ease during your session and were really happy with the result. I'm using the same photographer as Kohler44 and I can't wait for my session b/c Kohler's right...he does great work. And, the fact that he is a wiz with the airbrushing gives me some added reassurance ;) All i can say is that I'll be sipping on some Greygoose & tonics during my shoot!! :)

I have thought about it, but I'm a curvy girl, so not sure if they would come out well. But I think it's great that you did them. Can't wait to see them.

Miss Marjan & Iklein - Take heart! There's no way not to be nervous (like I said, I was INCREDIBLY nervous), but it's worth it. It's like when you're on the upward part of a roller coaster - it's scary, but you know what's coming is going to be so fun!

Thanks Aching!! I can't wait for my shoot. In the meantime, I'm going to work out like crazy---if anything, knowing that I'm going to be taking some "intimate" photos in a few weeks has given me the motivation I need to whip my body into wedding shape!! I know I'll be nervous, but it'll be SO worth it to see the smile on FI's face when he sees the pics ;)(wink wink, nudge nudge!!)

IKlein - My hair and makeup was done by a pro - hair all curled and teased, and heavy eye makeup (false lashes and lots of liner and shadow) with neutral lips. I brought about five changes of lingerie - several panty & bra sets, a flyaway babydoll set, and a bustier set. Here's one of the panty & bra sets I got:

I had two pairs of shoes (strappy sandals and round-toe pumps), as well as my wedding sandals (PIB), which we used in a series of photos where I was just wrapped in sheets (!).

It's kind of hard to describe the poses - there was a lot of lolling about (on a bed, on a windowsill, against a wall, etc.)! If you want ideas, I would definitely check out the websites and blogs of other boudoir photographers. But my experience was that my photog just told me what to do and I did it - no advance planning necessary. HTH - good luck!

Way to go!! Isn't it a great feeling? I think a lot of us have body image problems but obviously someone in our life thinks we are pretty great or we wouldn't be on this site. I had some taken a few years ago and 20 pounds heavier for valentines day but they turned out great and he loved them. I have a really good friend who was my roommate and photography student so it was a laid back experience and I think it gives you a confidence boost seeing the great results.

Congratulations!!
