?? Crazy hissing Cat

I was wondering if anybody knows what the heck is up with my cat (kitten i guess, he's 9 months).  My cat has been running around like crazy hissing at nothing!  I thought he was hissing at my dog, but my dog was curled up in the bedroom in his bed asleep, but my cat was out in the living room running amuck!  He's not aggressive to anyone or anything and is submissive to my 5lb chihuahua.  Oh and he's very vocal.  Meowing, yelling and all (separate from the hissing).  He runs around the house like a bat out of hell and then flopps down at our feet.  Or he will run out from behind something and get really spazmatic!  Could all of this be because he is CRAZY Hyper?  He lives on cat naps and doesn't sleep very long at all.  I don't think he knows he's a cat really becasue he meows at the doorbell and drinks out of the toilet (we are trying to fix that).  Is this normal?  Should i be concerned?  What the heck is going on?  I signed up for something mellow...not this!  But i Love him :)

it may be because he's hyper?  do you play feather or laser with him?  i know lasers are controversial but they're pretty good at wearing our little guy out.

our cat growls when he hears the ups truck outside. haha.  the doorbell rings and he's hiding in a kitchen cabinet.  he started doing the flop and show the tummy thing at our feet.  maybe yours thinks he's a dog too.  the only thing that concerns me about that is that he's hissing at apparantly nothing.  which is pretty weird.  you don't have any bugs or mice hiding in the walls?? lol.

OH MY GOSH I HOPE NOT!! I would DIE! Serisouly!  I don't think so considering we are on the 2nd floor of an apartment.  I'm glad you have a "Dat" (as we call him now...cat and dog).  We use both the laser and feathers.  He LOVES the laser..which also makes him hiss, but it's not a "nice" hiss kwim?  We will probably get rid of the feathers because he they end up all over the place.  He distroys them.

Lots of cats like drinking out of the toilet and sink--no worries.  :)  I think the hissing thing is kind of cute--sounds like he's just playing.  One of my dogs (border collie mix) growls when he's playing with our other dog or even playing with a toy by himself.  It's his way of trying to act tough. :)

I don't have a cat but I do have an incredibly vocal dog. She growls when she walks, when she knows it's time to go pee pee or even when I open the cabinet to get her food. She growls when she goes up and down the stairs and when I go to grab my robe. She's just all around crazy. I wouldn't read too much into it yet until he starts showing signs of true physical illness... not mental illness. LOL! HTH!

I'm thinking that your cat is probably smelling the scents of your dogs even though he's not around and hissing in reaction to that.

We just got a new cat and he was hissing at a toy like crazy, when I looked at the toy, it was one of my other cats. So he could smell her on it and it probably freaked him out.
