Day of wedding planner?

I'm been thinking about hiring a wedding planner for the day of our wedding. We have a couple different vendors and I think I would feel better if there was someone there who would make sure everything runs smoothly. For those of you who have hired one or had one at your wedding what did you think? Was it worth it? Why made you decide to hire one? How did you find yours?

I'm in search of a good Day Of Coordinator myself. I havent heard one bride regret hiring one. In fact, many say its the best money spent! I want one because I don't want to be the "go to" person on my wedding day. let someone else take that stress of your shoulders. They're professionals.

That's what my feelings are as well. I've been pricing them in my area all morning and they seem to be running $1500-1800. Does that seem like a lot? I know it's a lot of money but when it comes to wedding corodinators I didn't know what other people have paid for one.

Our cost of our venue includes a wedding event coordinator (for a Thursday, it's $2800).. also all of the vendors are local and all know each other, so they are able to work together really well to help the day go smoother.. I definitely don't desire to by the "go to" person, no way!

wow, $1500-$1800 just for the day of coordination?  That seems like a lot, I'm looking for a coordinator for just the day but the average prices have been $600-$1000

You can try Marie from AffairesofSplendor.  She's just starting out and trying to build her portfolio, so she's VERY affordable!  My wedding is next February so I won't be able to give a full review until then, but so far she's been wonderful!  She gives free consultations, so it couldn't hurt to meet with her and see how it goes.

Her email address is:

Marie@affairesofsplendor.com

She's still building her website, but here's the link for what she has so far:

I'm in the Philadelphia, PA area. Everything is really expensive so it doesn't surprise me that it's this much but it's still a lot of money to pay for it. Our reception site has someone that will work with us for our wedding day but I don't think they handle much when it comes to the outside vendors and some of those are coming from out of state (an hour away). I feel like I'll just feel better if I have someone that's taking care of things all day. Hopefully we can work it into our budget.

When I initially started to plan my wedding, I didn't think I would need one b/c I used to be an event coordinator and figured I could handle it, but after a while, I got so stressed that I started losing my hair.  There weren't enough hours in the day to get everything done and couldn't even sleep at the end of the day. After I hired my doc, I felt so relieved and think that it was one of my best investments, see my review in my bio. I found mine through fellow PW bride Mandy.

For any ladies in Southern Cali, I would def recommend my doc, Mardy:  http://yourdivinewedding.com

For those of you who did have a DOC what did you look for when you were shopping around for one? Did you ask for references and if so what did you ask them?

totally hire one-  it gives you peace of mind and eliminates having to ask favors from friends and family. this way, it's less of a headache and everyone can enjoy the day

My thoughts exactly theDame. That is my #1 reason for looking into one. Some people have suggested I ask a friend but I really just want everyone to enjoy the day not be incharge of things. I don't want any of our guests or FH and I to be bothered with things the entire day.

1. what are her "official duties"?
2. what packages does she offer (sometimes it's month of incl day of; sometimes more time b/c of more "duties)
3. how many weddings has she done at your venue / has she done any events at your venue
4. how long has she been an event coordinator?
5. if she is the only one (her own company and not a "firm") - who is her backup in case she has a family emergency or the like and she cannot be there on your day?
6. ask for her #2's credentials
7. what's her philosophy about wedding planning/day of??
8. most importantly, feel her vibe and pay attention to her personality - she's gonna be your right hand gal and you need to be able to have the same vision for your day
9. ask your fi to meet her also - the 3 of you all must be on same page - and then go home, talk about it - are you comfortable parting with your hard-earned money and trusting THIS person with running your day
10. interview 3 or up to 5 - then deduce from there..

HTH =)

Thanks d1rtymart! I have a couple of people I contacted for the DOC but there is one that I really like. I remember her being at a bridal show that I went to. She's tough and I think that's what I'm looking for. I have to set up some meetings with all of them and we will go from there. I'm also going to try and bring my mom (and dad if he wants) since she needs to like the DOC too.
