Decorating Reception Venue

I am getting married in about 10 months. Our reception venue is in an arena and I am trying to think of different ways to make it look not so "arenaish". It is an older arena and not so classy looking but we got a great deal and it is a HUGE space ideal for lots of people and dancing. My idea to cover the ceiling is to drape white lights and tulle, however I am going to be spendign a great deal of money on the tulle. I am wondering if anyone has some creative ideas for covering up a ceiling. Our theme is what i like to call "rustic chic".

Do you have pictures of the space?  are you looking at doing something like this?

RE: Wedding Reception in a Church's Gym

If your looking to buy lots of tulle I would be looking at craigslist or you can buy bolts of tulle from party places

heres asite where a 50 yard bolt is $45  http://www.stumpsparty.com, http://www.andersons.com

sometimes yocan lower the celing by doing something like this it won't let me copy the pictures but heres a link

http://rusticweddingchic.com/luna-bazaar.  hopefully this will help.

I do like the lights and tulle look, it can class up any space easily! But do be sure to buy on sale, maybe compare Craigslist and such prices to what you would pay retail so you know what a deal will be for sure. I also think that you can get away with less with this type of decorating, you will not need as many lights as you think to make this look good. Focus the majority of your decor on the head table, that is where everyone will be looking and most of the pictures will be.

Our reception was also in a big barn/arena/metal building type thing...huge but bare inside and out. We didn't use much for lighting and it looked fine!

Use tobacco cloth- less expensive and easy to handle. Has same effect.

We used plastic tablecloth by the roll to dress up an old venue. Gather it with tape on the back side. Cheap and goes a long way. You can use the tulle on things that are eye level to make more of an impact if needed.
