DH and Car Accident

First DH was not in the accident. He just called me and told me this.

This morning when he was on his way to work, he heard a car accident up ahead. Then the next thing he know, he see's a body laying in the road. When the light turned green, he drove over to the body and pulled over.

No one stopped to help this poor guy but my DH. Well, DH used to be an EMT a long time ago, so he rushed over and held c-spine. He was checking for a pulse, but didn't find one. The guys face was basically gone. He died in DH's hands.

What happened was a car ran a red light and hit the guy on the motorcycle. The man on the motorcycle was thrown off of his bike and landed on the pavement. He landed in the path of another car and that car ran him over. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

DH is upset. He is still at work, but has a migrane and is upset. I can't blame him. The man died in his hands literally.

This goes to show how life can be so fragile and unpredictable. I mean I am sure that man would never have guessed that when he left his house this morning that he would end up being hit by a car, run over by another and die in a strangers hands.

OMG! How aweful! I just got chills as I read this. I'm so sorry he had to experience that and I'm sorry for the family that lost their son, father, brother, etc.

We must enjoy each day we are given and live life to the fullest.

Oh my God.  How awful...for that poor man and your DH!  I would be so shaken up, I don't think I would be able to go to work!  I hate motorcycles.  I hate them because there are just too many careless drivers on the road....Thank God FH is not into them!

HUGS to your DH and that poor man's family.

The first car that hit him, the driver ended up pulling over and called 911 while DH was holding c-spine until the parametics came. DH said the guy was so upset and kept apologizing.

I am sorry, but that guy can apologize all he wants, but the fact remains that he ran a RED LIGHT and killed someone because of his stupidity.

oh my god! This is terrible. Your husband should come home from work. Actually, the best thing would be if you went and got him from work. I know he will not want to let you, but that type of shock can really have an effect on you. I am sure it brought up memories from when he was an EMT, which must be tough. I am sure his work will understand that he needs some personal time to deal with having someone die in his hands this morning. Also, doesn't he need to be at the police station etc.? Wow. So sorry honey. Hugs to him!

goodness.. how awful!! my roomie's bf and his best friend was just recently hit too by a person who didn't stop at a stop sign. this person ran it, hit one car and that one car hit my roomie's bf and his best friend. fortunately her bf left with minor scratches and bruises, UNFORTUNATELY his best friend died because he got pinned to the steering wheel and the airbags DIDNT deploy...

TCB, your hubby did a kind act.. it is sad that people dont pull over.. they think they'll get away with it, but it'll be with them for the rest of their lives!!

Thanks ladies. Yes, he did do a good thing.

I wish I could say that I don't know what my DH is going through, but sadly I do. My mother and I came upon a similar scene back in 1993 when I was 18. My mom is in the medical field, so he pulled over to help. I had to help. I held c-spine while my mom tried to work on her. The parametics finally came, but it was too late. the woman dies in my hands. I was only 18. It was difficult to deal with.

I don't wish that on anyone.

This makes me just sick... I pray to God the driver who ran the red goes away for a very, very long time for vehicular manslaughter (and all those drivers who just went on by without stopping to help the downed rider?  They should all pray that if they -- or their loved ones -- are ever involved in an accident, that the passers-by have more of a heart and a soul than THEY have, and that someone stops to help them......)

Sickening... just sickening....

Huge hugs to your FH for doing the right thing... while he couldn't do much to help the man, at least the guy didn't have to die alone... Human touch is a powerful thing, and even though he probably couldn't communicate such, I'm sure he appreciated those last fleeting seconds of someone showing they cared.

So very sad. My thoughts are with the biker and I hope that your FI is DH is able to get through it. I can only imagine how he must be feeling right now. For some reason, I feel like more and more accidents are involving motorcycles. It's so scary. Everytime I see one on the road, I make way for it. I always make sure to look for them in my blind spot when switching lanes. It's one thing to hit a car, but a biker. So sad!

I have to say that this is NOT the first time my husband has gone above and beyod to help someone in an accident.

About 1 year ago, we were traveling on freeway 99 here in Calif going southbound heading home. In the northbound lane all of a sudden, a car flips over and travels along the freeway. We say it. I immediately called 911.

My husband got off on the next exit and got back on the freeway going northbound. He parked the car on the side and ran across 3 lanes of oncoming freeway traffic to help the person. He almost got hit by an 18 wheeler.

Anywhoo, the car was upside down. Thw woman black out I guess and lost control of the car. She had her seatbelt on, but she ended up in the back seat. My husband had to cut her out and keep her still until the parametics got there.

My husband truly believes that when someone is in trouble, you get off your ass and help. He is great that way.

I have a bit of an update.

My husband got home about an hour ago and told me this. He said he heard that apparently, the driver that first hit him may not face any charges. They are claiming that their was a problem with the lights.

Well, DH told me that he was traveling down the same road and the lights were working fine. So who knows.
