Spring/Summer 2012 Baby Bumps!

Diapers

OK now that many of us are new mommies...and some of us soon will be....what is your favorite diaper? We have been using Pampers Swaddlers for the first month in Newborn size. But recently, Cash started figuring out how to pee out of the top of the diaper. Yes he is quite talented. He is still a little guy @8 lbs but I am wondering if we should just try the Swaddlers in size 1. I like the little strip on the front that changes color when it is wet. But then there are a lot of people that swear by huggies. Also, where do you think you get the best price on diapers.

Between diapers, wipes....and now formula...this lil kiddo is not cheap.

This might be a silly question (but something FI & I were never told!!) but are you making sure he is 'pointing down' when you put his nappy on?
It never even crossed my mind when our boys arrived and I was getting so frustrated....until my sister pointed out the obvious!!!

I used Pampers right through until they were potty trained and never had an issue with them

I found the cheapest place for diapers to be at Sam's Club or a Costco (or another big super store like that). Definitely dont buy from a babies r us - they're almost $10 more expensive than everywhere else. Or amazon mom usually has good deals. I also found that diapers.com isnt too bad priced either and they have free 2 day shipping :)
As far as brands I'm of no help yet as my baby girl isnt here yet! But the two I like right now are pampers swaddlers sensitive and Huggies Natural Care.

Candice - we had the same problem with G and switched to size 1's and problem solved!  If he is a 8 pounds I would go ahead and switch.  It seems as soon as they get to about 1 to 2 pounds from the limit it's time to move up to the next size.

As far as diapers I have tried them all!!!  Huggies also has the strip...let me tell ya that strip is a blessing AND a curse that thing turns blue if a tiny drop of pee hits it!  Ok, back to diapers :) Swaddlers and any Huggies are good - I'm not a fan of Pampers with Baby Dry...they smell funny.  Luvs are great too and WAY cheaper!  Haven't had any leaks with them.  I tried Target brand they were ok, they are about the same price as Luvs and I like Luvs a lot better.

Usually what I do is use the cheaper diapers (Luvs) during the day since he it seems he pee's alot then and the more $$ (Huggies / Pampers) at night.  Also, a trick I learned from other mommas is once they start sleeping through the night to put the next size diaper on.  G was leaking through his size 2's at night and once I put him is 3's no more leaks!  I love Huggies Snug and Dry at night they are super soft.

For price - Wal-Mart and sometimes Target.  Sign up for Huggies coupons on their site and they will send you coupons all the time.  Oh, and depending on the formula sign up on their site as well.  G is on Similac and they send $5 checks every month it seems.  Sam's Club prices are good we are just at the phase were he is almost out of size 2's so I'm trying not to stock up on those (size 3's go to 28 pounds so he should be in those a while).

Wow thanks ladies. Lots of info....and pointing his thingy down might be a good start. I do think we are onto the size 1's for now.

We are a pampers family all the way! we have tried others huggies leaked and so did 3rd genoration. We don't like the pampers baby dry either we always go with the swadlers or cruisers or overnights. Deffinitly point him down it should stop the peeing out the top of the diaper. Now if its just the waist band thats weat its usually time to switch to the next size.

We always buy our diapers from diapers.com they have the best prices and give you great deals. We just got a card for $20 off a diaper purches at the end of may if we buy 2 boxes and its always free shipping and comes in 1 or 2 days totally in love with them.

I just signed up for amaon subscribe and save....the prices on the swaddlers sensitive and formula were actually cheaper. And I can set them up to automatically come to my house every month. :)

I have no advice on diapers, as I haven't even looked into this yet...but can I hijack with a question about wipes?  I noticed Costco had a coupon for Huggies Natural Care Wipes this month and was wondering if I should buy a box - the problem is, it would be 1,120 of them in the box so I was hoping someone here has used them before.  The price would end up being something like $19.99 for all of them which seems to be really cheap. Any thoughts?

I think Natural Care is good?  There was one type that I didn't like because they were super rough...maybe just buy a single container of the Natural Care to see if they are soft? You want something really soft for the first couple of weeks since newborn poo is super sticky and their little bums get irrated very easily.  I  do suggest getting scented wipes though!  Baby poop stinks!  Right now my favorite is the Huggies Soft Skin with Shea butter.  I don't care for Target's brand.

I use Parent's Choice diapers. They work just as well as Pampers IMO, and they also have the wet strip. A pack of newborn diapers is $6 instead of $10 for Pampers.

I also use Parent's Choice for formula. It is a HUGE price difference for exactly the same thing.
