Dieting? important advice...

DON'T SKIP MEALS... I had a friend who thought this was a good idea:  to not eat all day until dinner.  I tried it for a while and guess what?  IT'S TRUE... you will gain weight.  It is so hard for me to skip breakfast and not grab the first free donut someone offers me.  Eating often keeps your body happy, keeps you from settling for junk food, and gives you energy all day.  Do it.  I'm taking snacks in bags to school everyday so 1. I won't be tempted to spend way too much money on food, and 2.  I won't be starving at the end of the day and eat a whole pizza or something crazy like that.

I grabbed the baby carrots, cucumber I'm going to slice, and apples and oranges to carry since fruits and veggies are the group most lacking in my diet. I typically take a sandwich for lunch.

If you have advice or want to share your strategy for eating this week, PLEASE SHARE.

i really recommend keeping an online food diary. i've found it useful not only to keep within my caloric quota for the day, but also to see if i haven't consumed enough calories. it also shows me if i consumed too many carbs or not enough protein, etc. i use the one on sparkpeople. at the end of the day, you can run a report that shows you how you did for the day. i've found that this knowledge really helps me make better eating choices throughout the day!

Great advice LadyHannah!  It's so true. . .I spent our entire wedding planning trying to convince my mom (who wanted to lose weight for our wedding) that she needed to EAT!  Instead she would eat nothing all day and then have a large dinner. . .and she gained weight for the wedding :(

You have to eat every few hours to keep your metabolism moving and your blood sugar stable.  If you eat only once a day you not only binge, but your body say 'FOOOOOD!' and holds onto it.

Absolutely don't skip meals.  It's sooooo bad for you, and not just in terms of gaining weight when trying to lose.  Your body and your brain need energy consistently when you are awake, the only time they don't is when you're asleep.....because you're asleep!

yeah.. MountainBride.. eating the exact food in a day, but spreading it into 4 or more meals instead of the usual 3 has many health benefits along with weight management.

I have so much more energy and feel happier when I eat 5 small meals a day and am getting a cardio work out in daily than when I was on the eat-barely-anything diet. I personally lost just as much weight both ways, but I was a lot more moody and tired when I wasn't eating or excercising.
