I don't think it's a good idea. You don't want any additional stress for your wedding day. Plus, I hear DIYers actually spend more because they overbuy.

Hmmm... maybe just DIY centerpieces, and have a professional do the bouquets?

I wanted to save some money so we tried DIY flowers. It was hit and miss. We bought flowers from Costco and tried to make centerpieces, large arrangements for the ceremony, and bouquets for all the bridesmaids and bride. Yeah, I know, kind of ambitious.

My bouquet turned out beautifully. I looked up a bunch of places on the web on how to make one and I practiced several times before the wedding day. If I was going to get anything right, I wanted my bouquet to look nice. The bouquets for the bridesmaids were kind of falling apart, but it was ok since it's noticeable from far away.

We had to make a bunch of centerpieces and I think these were pretty good. We had floating candles in a bowl and roses and rose petals in and around the bowl. Using candles made things a lot easier.

For the larger arrangement, we ended up just asking a florist to do it. I tried so many times, but it was just too hard! Leave it to the professionals.

For fun, I wanted to resurrect the oldest thread on the boards...  lol

It's actually super appropriate because I am doing my own flowers. :D

Definetly all DIY for flowers. I won't have much flowers in my centerpieces, but I will have to do all our bouquets.

My centerpeices are all floating candles ect and my wedding party only has two girls so I was going to DIY. My best friend made all his bouquets, boutonniers etc himself for his wedding and they were great so when he offered to help me the day before I couldn't say no. (BTW ladies, ever girl should have a gay best friend. They really are fabulous! I would be lost without him and his stylish advice, lol) My theme is daisys and I intend to have my girls carry a bouquet of magenta colored daisys. I was planning on the same thing only throwing some roses in mine. Was going to have the daisys shipped from a wholesaler so hopefully (fingers crossed) everything goes ok :)

My centerpieces are potted flowers that we are also using as aisle decorations.  Killed two birds with one stone there!

I'm doing DIY and I love the way they turned out.  It's actually ONE LESS thing to stress about now.  So I'd say they are a VERY good idea if you don't mind fake flowers.  :-)
