Do I really need to have a wedding band to go with my ring?

So my fiance' and I got engaged straight out of school and my ring wasn't really my DREAM ring...due to financial reasons.  Since he's the sweetest guy in the world he's letting me upgrade the ring before the wedding.  The one I picked out is aaaammmmaaazzzing, but because of the cut I don't think it would look good with a wedding band.

My question to you ladies is; do I really need a wedding band?  Is it going to take away from the ceremony or special moment of not exchanging bands?  Your thoughts would be so helpful :)

It's up to you whether you want to use your engagement ring to serve the purpose of an e-ring and a wedding band.

Personally, I couldn't see getting married without a seperate wedding band.  But that's just me....if you don't want/need one, you should do what's right for you!

There's no reason why he couldn't put your e-ring on during the ring exchange part of your ceremony.  You may even be able to have your engagement ring engraved. My engaement ring doesn't have a band to match it.  So I got it engraved and it will stay on my left hand.  I bought a separate band to go on my right hand to serve as my wedding.  More bling on both hands!  that way, I can take off my engagement ring but still have a wedding band (during traveling or times when I might worry about my e-ring being damaged)  Just thoughts

I like BlueBride's idea of you wearing one on your right hand.  That way you still get to exchange during the ceremony and your not disturbing your beautiful e-ring.

my sister doesn't have a wedding band - she just wears her engagement ring - and honestly it looks like she is just engaged and people have told her so. I have seen people that don't wear their engagement rings on their left hand - just the wedding band, and I think that is what I do if I were in your situation. Get a wedding band to wear on my left hand and wear the engagement ring on my right.

Absolutely not!  If you don't think you'll want to wear a wedding band because of the way it may look with your e-ring, don't waste your money.  You can certainly use you e-ring as the ring in the ceremony but only wear one afterwards. I know lots of people with just one, so you're not alone :)

I'm not wearing a band with mine. I just switched hands - no one has said anything about it. Honestly, if they did, I would probably look at them like they were crazy. I've never been very tied to tradition, though. It doesn't bother me to break some rules here and there. =)

I struggled with the exact same thing. The ering I fell in love with (and now have) absolutely cannot be worn with a wedding band (see bio). I told FI that I didn't need a band but he wouldn't hear of it. He said that he was afraid of people always thinking I was only engaged (I actually think he's more sentimental than he thinks and really wants me to have a band because of the meaning behind it). SO, I wear my ering on my left hand now- BUT I will wear it on my right hand when we actually get married and the band on my left. I love this idea and it makes us both happy.

That being said, I don't think you *need* a band. As long as both you and your FI are ok with it... do whatever you want girlfriend :)

I couldn't see myself without a band, but if you don't want one, then that's fine.  I agree with kk though

I'm with Magischbride. I got a non-traditional E-ring *see my bio* and I totally love it! FI & I went to buy it together, poor baby had been searching to find a nice one for weeks, but couldnt find any that he thought I would like. So cause I told him that in the NL barely anyone gets engaged anymore (my friends and family think it's old-fashioned), and coupled always buy their rings together, he asked me if I would mind buying the e-ring with him. So I went for the ring I got now, and I don't want another/extra ring. So no, there's is totally no need to have one. FI & I are a mix between the US and NL traditions and we feel good with that. Finance is also a reason for us, I rather have him spent the money on the wedding than buy me another ring. Just do whatever you feel comfortable with, you don't have to care *in my opinion* what others should think about it.
