Do not ship wedding things USPS!

Okay so stealing birthday money out of Hallmark cards is one thing, messing with wedding things is a whole new problem!

I shipped my bridesmaids shoes to all of them so that they could dress shop. All but one pair arrived safely. After waiting for two months I was ready to reorder them this morning when a package arrived. It didn't look familiar at all. I opened it and what was inside but the shoes mangled and stained, the original box and the paper around was torn to shreds and opened and the top was missing as well as the note that was inside. I wish I had insured it but I kept thinking how many times do things get lost? And they will not refund me the shipping cost which was not cheap.

Another reason not to use them? My friend brought a genuine Panama hat back from Panama and I was sending it to FI's father for his birthday. The original cost to ship was $4 but when I got to the counter the man said I couldn't ship lighter parcels ground anymore so I paid $30 to ship the hat! That's more than the hat probably cost, absurd!

GO TO UPS OR FEDEX, the USPS has no clue what they are doing anymore and it will probably cost you less anyways.

Champagne, I hear you!
I sent my wedding invitations to my family in Bulgaria with Express Mail about two weeks ago. They say they "guarantee" delivery in six business days. Well, guess what! It's been more like twelve business days and the invitations have not arrived yet! I am going to the PO to yell at them today :)

It's so sad that our own government run postal service is THAT lame.

I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience. I guess if people do choose to use them, INSURE! INSURE! AND TRACK!

Sorry sorry to hear that Champagne!! I completely agree with you! Remember that hair comb I ordered for my wedding that never arrived? It was sent USPS. They claim that it was delivered but I can guarantee them it was not...at least not to me! Whenever things have been shipped UPS or FedEx, I've never had a problem getting them. Hmmm...

Ugh thanks ladies for letting me vent. I'm so mad at them but I realize its futile!

Beatie, did it ever arrive? Is it lost forever??

Smilkova, isn't it a shame that we HAVE to send things through them for invitations and such??

MissMandy, the shoes that were ruined were being sent to my friend who is a political aid to the Pres. I'm secretly hoping she'll get really really mad about it too and blab all over the office about how horrible USPS is :) silly right?

Yes, apparently it's lost forever. The vendor that sent it refunded my money, thankfully, and I just reordered another one from her. This time she requested that I have to sign for it for delivery. They tried to deliver it on Monday but unfortunately, I'm not home during the day (I DO work afterall!!) so I have to wait until Saturday to have the new one delivered. But at least I know I will get this one!!

After hearing these stories, I am doubly happy that I have used FedEx for all my wedding/moving shipping. I live in Seattle and am having the wedding here but I'm moving to Chicago bec he got transfered there for work. And so I've had to ship all my wedding gifts/shower gifts, along with all my belongs via FedEx. Everything has arrived within five days, nothing has been broken, and its WAY CHEAPER then USPS! I'd hate to lose all my socks and underwear into no man's land and then to finally receive it open and mangled.

I know this doesn't help w/invitations, but UPS has ground shipping which is really cheap and can be tracked. I sent a box to my aunt in NY, it cost me $3.18 and she got it in 3 days!!

Champ - ARE YOU SERIOUS? I wonder if something happened politically speaking? ;) But honestly, that's just awful. I do not get the USPS at all.

I couldn't agree more! I made a formal complaint with Consumer Affairs last year regarding the dereliction of the USPS-this was after my address was somehow marked as "vacant" at the local post office and I didn't receive any of my mail for nearly three weeks! I had been living at that address for over a year too! It is absolutely ridiculous that a service we citizens rely on so heavily for every aspect of our lives (business, personal, etc.) is so unreliable!!
