Do's & Don't of Renewal of Vows

For our 10th Wedding Anniversary we want to renew our vows.  I didn't have a first wedding attire and the works and I really want to have that at this time.  I want an Ivory gown, Cake, New Rings, Bridal Party.  Open to suggestions...... My formal Invitations will have dresscode Formal and No Gifts Please.

I agree with AHVR2013 and her views on the knot I was like WTF.

I think that as long as we do NOT expect things like gifts it is fine, and that said if a person is invited to an anniversary party then they should bring a gift. So, I don't get why they were making this distinction.

Also their view on the focus should be a religous experience about drove me mad. No, mine is NOT about religion, but about showing that we have been through it all and did not just give up like so many people do. I think that if a marriage is to survive today things like "DATE NIGHTS" and feeling like your relationship is not just ho-hum is VERY important.

Fearce, I really do wish we lived closer! I know we would have so much fun together with these "little details" of planning!

Having been married 20 years people tell me I don't understand why it is more important to celebrate a "NEW" Marriage vs one like mine. I really do feel those ettiquette people are just jealous of marriages that work and I can tell you the wedding industry LOVES and supports our reasons. The florist was THRILLED when I told her.

I think that the more of us who do this and the more first time brides see us doing this the better!

Welcome leese33, The one thing you must know is there are no rules. Fearce is another great person to talk to. She has years to plan hers. The only thing you should would about is celebrating what you have built together and what you want.

Break things down into sections.

Get one thing done a week and you should be good to go. The exception are the people you need/want to book. The sooner the better.

My vow renewal will be at our Historic Community Center and the venue cost was only a $150 I can get in at 7am the day of and we need to be done by midnight. Talk about cheap. It has a full kitchen and two stoves and a Fridge. And has a beautiful area for photos.

Let us know what you are thinking about. Do you know what kind of dress you want? Do you want it in white or another color?

I chose Platinum Silver for my wedding dress. It was also only $54 from a place I LOVE online. Since this is a February wedding I chose Platinum and Ice for the theme. I will have little pops of red here and there to warm things up a bit.

I also chose to do a Tea because it is less expensive and very easy to do myself.

Just hang in and talk to us. You can private message any of us and I am sure we will all help you.

Also, there is another group on here for African American Brides. I guess because some traditions are different? Anyway, be sure to check all of the groups. So many great ones out there!

BTW you will not find a more supportive group for those of us who want to renew.

I would suggest you stay away from the Knot they are anti vow renewal. As I said I think they just don't understand!

Please read my bio. You may find something in there like my inspiration photos or whatever.

best of luck!

Hello ladies!  IdoAgain, I love all your ideas!  Looks like your renewal will be lovely! Looking forward to being a part of this group!

I have most of my VR planned out - venue, dress, shoes, officiant & planner, working on vows, music and an anniversary ring...  Ours will be a "just the two of us" ceremony and photo shoot in our penthouse suite in Las Vegas in the evening, going for an elegant feeling... hope we can pull that off.  I am not sure what I can do for decor - one of my ideas is to take along LED tealights with us.  Also a banner to hang up I saw on Etsy.

We'll have Champagne & cake, then go out to dinner somewhere great...

Looking forward to hearing from you ladies - glad I am not the only Vow Renewal Bride!

DnE2013VR You are lucky you have your shoes already. This is the one thing I am still having trouble with. I have this design in my head and I can't get it our and the shoes I see just don't equal the look and color I want. So frustrating.

I LOVE how you are having the ceremony and cake and then going to a fabulous Dinner. Sometimes I wish I had just done that. I was actually HOPING my DH would have done that for me when we went to Rockport, MA last summer. My favorite place in the world is Rockport, MA.

leese33 I don't think you are missing anything, but are you making your center pieces or buying them?

This is one area where I think brides forget to really pay attention. I know High candles and clusters of tall flowers are pretty, but if you cannot see the person across from you and easily talk to them I find it uncomfortable.

The original date we were supposed to get married, we found our daughter having a seizure. Of course we put it off and did a quick "I do" in our front room a couple of weeks later. We used my oldest son's b-day cake, they put our topper on with his Hulk topper. We have talked about going all out but never did. This year is our 10 yr and we are going all out. My mother says it's stupid, but we are not paying her any mind. Saturday is the "big day" and we have all 5 of our children involved along with some dear friends. We are looking forward to this very important and fun day.
