Does anyone have extremely long hair, and if so, how did you style it?

I regularly grow my hair for Locks of Love, and am in a growing stage right now.  I am trying to come up with ways to style my hair for inspiration.  My hair is down to the top of my thighs, so I am worried about the feasibility of "typical" updos and things.

I haven't settled on updo, half up half down, or down, so the sky is the limit right now.  Just curious to see what others have done, to see it on real people.

The long hair pictures I see on all the sites I have found so far look like the models have hair at or just past their shoulder blades.  It is not time to cut mine yet, so I am trying to get some ideas of styles to begin talking over with the people I am meeting with to find a hair stylist.  I don't want to go empty handed.  I want to have some suggestion of things I like so I can find someone to do my hair the day of (because truthfully I don't feel like I can do my own hair because of it's length).

If you have extremely long hair and have pictures, or have come across pictures and are willing to share, I would appreciate some inspiration.  A friend suggested french braid, another said a bun, but I live like that 99% of the time because of the heat etc. that I just really would like something more creative, or something to make it less everyday.  If they are based in bun or french braids that is cool, but would like to try to think outside the box a bit.

i will say, if your hair is that long, and you plan on getting it professionally done for your wedding, pleaseeee go have a trial ASAP! not to sound snooty, but doing updos on hair that long not only will take forever, but is nearly impossible because the weight of your hair will pull everything down. i used to have a client come in weekly for a blowdry whose hair was almost as long as yours, and just blowing it out made me break a sweat!! i dont kno if i would actaully take on a client for an updo with that much hair! do you have a pictre on here of what it looks like so we can get a feel for your texture?

Yes, I am wanting to start looking for someone right now.  We have a good while before the wedding, but I want to find someone I am comfortable with that is comfortable working with my hair length and texture so we can work out some ideas, I just don't want to walk into any meeting empty handed saying "do something"... I feel like if I at least show them pictures of styles I like, then say they have some creative liscense because I recognize not everything will work on my hair, my length, etc. at least they have a springboard to find something that will work, and I feel like I may need more than one practice run because of the weight of my hair, I want to wear it through a "typical" day - if it holds up and still looks good after one of my days, it should hold up fine during the wedding and reception (my days are hectic and lots of moving/running around).  If not, but I really like the style, there may be ways we can find to toy with it and tweak it that might make it more sturdy.

No, I don't (yet) have *any* pictures on here, but I will see what I can do.  The problem comes from getting the camera and someone to work it together at the same time lol.  But I will see if I can get it uploaded today or tomorrow (I have a music rehearsal tonight, so might not be able to get it done before then).  To give some general idea until then, the individual hairs are pretty thin/fine, but my normal hairstylist (she doesn't do updos or anything) says that it's healthy, and got good density(?) (is that the right word - meaning the number of hairs - it's not thinning).  When I wash it, I don't blow dry it so it won't get dry and brittle, and it takes about 45 minutes for it to dry (I do put a leave in conditioner on that lengthens that time) or so.  My hair is blunt cut straight across the bottom and has some light waves in it (not curly by any means, or even deep waves) that for the most part all flow in the same direction.  It's thickness is a bit decieving in that when it's down and loose it looks like I have 2-3 times the hair I really do  but my pony tail is only about an inch in diameter (yes, I was curious one time and measured it).  I feel it's a little unmanageable which is why I resort to braids and buns 99% of the time, and which is why I am wanting a professional's help if possible.

I have never colored it, and I never use heat on it (I am not against using heat for this, I am just protecting the integrity of the hair on a daily basis since it is so long).  It takes curl real well and holds it.

That is the best I can think of to describe it, but I definately will get a picture up to let you see it.

Thank you, that is beautiful, I have added that to my list of likes.

MagicWeaver,

I have butt length hair and was amazed what my hairdresser could do with my hair.  While I wore mine down on my wedding day, at my mother's choosing, I have worn it in French Twists, French Braids, rolls, curls and even the hairstyle Katiae45 shown.  When it was dressed like that it took 235 pins to hold it in place! (Atleast that was the count when I took the pins out there could have been more lol)  (This was for my best friend's wedding I was maid of honor).
