Domain owned wedding websites

Hi Ladies!

I am trying to build a wedding website but am having trouble finding companies that offer domain owned websites. We would like to own the domain so that we can use the website as a family website after the wedding. If you know of any companies/websites that offer these, please send them my way!

TIA

I had the same issue so I ended up getting my own domain and then forwarding it to my wedding website.  Most, if not all, domain companies should allow you to do this.  (I used Yahoo domains.) For example, if your URL is JohnandJane.com, you can forward it to projectwedding.com/myweddingwebsite.  You can "cloak" the URL so people only see your domain name, and not where they are being forwarded to.

Post-wedding, you can undo the forward and just host it like you normally would (and put up your family content).

SanFran is right. There are tons of wedding web site companies that offer you to create your own personal domain but you usually have to pay for that extra service. I got a domain from godaddy.com that forwards to my wedding web site on weddingwire.com

I'd recommend using www.wix.com - you can have your own domain, and they have lots of templates to choose from to build your site. And since it's not specifically a "wedding" website company, you can easily change up your site when you're done.

ajfisher used them, and her site was awesome. You might PM her for the address to check it out.

I used wix once and honestly did not like it. The loading time is sluggish and the pictures don't turn out that great when you post them. The options to add interactive elements to your site are buggy and don't work well!!!

I'm planning on just using godaddy.com when the time comes, my girlfriend used it and her site was gorgeous.

You will need to follow the directions provided by the company where you purchased the domain (for example, godaddy.com). Every company has different directions, so you'll need to see what the one you're using instructs you to do.

You can also check on domain availability at Network Solutions.  They also have hosting too I believe.  We use them all the time.
