Double booked venue-

I got the worst news any bride can get yesterday. My venue manager called and said he was so sorry and they had double booked my date. I am getting married and having the reception in the same place....... on October 11, of this year. 29 days away. And we are pretty much "homeless" for our special day. We booked in March. I have a contract and he has out money. It is a space owned by a very, who I thought was reputable, chef in NYC.

Does anyone have any advice, within legal limits?  I have been crying for the last 12 hours since I got the call. No sleep.  And no idea what to do. And our tasting is this afternoon. For what?  Other than that everything is just peachy!

Oh my Gosh, I'm so sorry..... WOW... So why aree YOU the one that loses out and not the other party???  I would exmine your contract very carefully and see if there's any clauses that cover this type of thing.

*hug*  Good luck!

Is it possible for the venue to fix this problem THEY created?  Can they make some calls and find another venue for you?  You have every right to be furious so let 'em have it and make 'em fix it!

Good Luck!

They HAVE TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!! You signed a contract for that date and they have to figure out a way to fix it... I would have them attempt to book anoter venue and they should atleast refund your money back or something.

Good luck... I will keep you in my prayers! Let us know what happens.

Ya, I would say read all the fine print, and call them to see what THEY will be doing to make it right, and maybe mention a lawyer or the Better Business Bureau.

Good luck!

While you have every right to be angry, I would work with them the best you can to fix the problem. In the end you want to have the wedding that you want, when you want, and not have to worry about the mistakes they made.  It would be tough for me to do, but I would start by giving them the benifit of the doubt in that it was truely an honest oversight. If you are understanding about the situation they might go out of their way to help you out. If you march right in threating legal action there is no way they are going to do anything for your October 11th date.

However, if they step out of line even a little I would go for broke with these people. Then at least you can say you tried.  Good Luck and remeber everything happens for a reason.

If you booked it first, it is yours. There is no way around that. If you were the second one to book, this guy needs to make the accommodations for you. If he really is as reputable in the city as you say he is, he has some friends who he can call favors in to to get you the best alternative possible.  Also, look at your contract and see what it says about double booking. This is totally unacceptable and I would NOT let this guy just push you out of the way so he can make more money with another wedding (possibly). HE needs to make this right, not YOU! Legally, I would think that you can insist he pay for the cost of printing "change of location" cards for all of your guests and he should get you a discount on whatever other place he finds for you. You should not let him get off easily. I am so mad for you. I will call the ass-h myself if you need someone tough to do it. (That is my wedding date too, so I know how close we are!)

who the fck is the OWNER of this place??  if you're not getting what you need out of the venue staff - time to take it upwards...

and i know you dont want to hear this - but maybe time to be pro-active and start looking for another venue just in case it will take longer to fix this mess that the time you have left on the ticker??

check your contract - there shuld be a clause about double booking or something...

wow...and i was upset just that we found out there there is another ceremony at our venue a few hours before.  if THIS happened, i'd be fuming!  i'm the same date as well.  I would insist to see both contracts so you can be sure who booked first.  And if it was you, then by all means, YOU get the venue.  If not, then this guy definitely needs to do something to assist you...find a new place, give you all your money back, etc.  I'm so sorry...I can only imagine how this makes you feel! :(

I agree with willinilli. I don't doubt that a venue will try to cancel out an event if they get another customer who wants to book a bigger event that will bring them more money. What sucks is that I'm sure the venue checked their contract to see if it is within their legal limits before trying anything like that.

The place is called Astra. It's in NYC. The owner is Charlie Palmer. It is his general manager that has mucked this all up. He has emailed me a few other locations in NYC, but nothing compares to our original spot. We picked it for the room, the view, outdoor terrace and the food.

It has made me so sick. I want to cancel the whole thing and sue him and go to Vegas. I have lost all interest. And as each day passes, so does my hope of finding something else.

Thanks for your kind words and hope.

I hope none of you ever have to go through this.

This is absolutely ridiculous!  I feel sick right now hearing this.  I would sabotage their reputation and accountability- this needs to bite them in the ass, very unprofessional and extremely disappointing.  I feel for you...

Maybe ditch their venus all together and try to find a new location? They need to compensate you somehow!  I would be irrate and not let them sleep at night- sorry Im crazy like that- its just so horrible to go through something like this!

Can we help you with anything at all? Looking for new locations, death threats, etc...  Let us know we are here for you!

- HMM :)

Holy Moly,

I can't stop laughing. Thank you. A Death threat would be perfect at this time. I looked at your pics and they are great, and very ironic. My flowers are/ were going to be that deep-deep red and the song you picked for 1st dance and last song are the same that I picked. We think alike. I am going to a lawyer on Monday. After talking to my friends' hubby who is one in CA, I am convinced that I need to.  Ain't nothing like a bride scorned.....  Congrats on your wedding. It looks beautiful. Best wishes for along life of love & happiness. koko

koko, don't let this ruin your special day....don't lose sight of the real purpose which I know is sometimes easier said than done.  What that venue did is completely awful and unacceptable, and you need to sue the pants out of them for putting this unnecessary stress on you.

But you need to pick yourself up, brush yourself off, pick another venue (even if it isn't your first choice or exactly what you wanted) and continue on with your special day.  Because it is not the venue or the flowers or the colors that make a wedding day perfect.  It's the love between the two of you that exudes, fills the room and everyone feels.

Read this thread posted some time back.  It helps remind us not to lose sight of the marriage in the craziness of the wedding... hope it helps you alittle.
