double check that marriage license!

We got our marriage license and made sure to double-check the application we filled out. But when it came time to actually check over the marriage license itself, we were both so excited and nervous that we didn't notice that the county had been typed in wrong by the person processing our paperwork until we got home.

The recorder said the easiest thing would be to have us both go back and get another license re-issued to us that we sign in their presence again, just to correct the spelling of the county. If we didn't need the certificate to for immigration proceedings, we wouldn't have really cared.

Anyway. It's just unnecessary stress, so don't let this happen to you!

how do you even go about getting the marriage license and how far in advance should you get it before your actual wedding?

your local city hall's website should have information on it. Each area varies but usually there is a waiting period between applying for the license and actually getting married. Also, there is an expiration window so you have to get married within a specific time frame. If government websites are too confusing, I would just call city hall to double check the times and what documents you need to bring.
