Trashing a wedding dress sounds like a waste. =(

A wedding dress is so expensive and so many things you could do with it, like donate it to charity or turn it into your first child's dress for baptism, or sell it on ebay and recoup some of the cost.

ack, wouldn't you want to keep it for the memories? And when you're 70, you can say "I used to fit in that!"

If you're going to trash it, you might as well donate it I would think.

Why trash it when you can clean and preserve it for less than most dry cleaners through Affordable Preservation Company - http://www.affordablepreservation.com

If you decide not to keep it, then you can donate it or sell it once it has been professionally cleaned.

I think "trashing a dress," figuratively speaking, can be a wonderful way to get creative and artistic photos that you wouldn't have been able to get on your wedding day. Since it's normally done after your wedding, the wedding stress is gone and you can really have a great time getting beautiful photos in some not-so-ordinary places.

I think the name is misleading when most brides who do a TTD session don't really "trash" their gown and after a good dry-cleaining, it's as good as new... even after a roll around in wet sand. Then she can preserve it, sell it, turn it into a baptizm gown, or donate it. I wouldn't be so quick to renounce TTD sessions as a waste when, most of the time, they really aren't.

Just my two cents.

I trashed my dress in the sense that I got into the ocean and rolled around on the sand in it with my DH two days after our wedding. My dress is just fine...cleaned up perfectly and is hanging in my closet now. In fact the salt water took chocolate fingerprints left on the side of my skirt by my flower girl! It was the most fun we've had....and it gave us some of the best photos from our wedding week in Kauai. I have no regrets at all about doing it and encoruage all newlyweds to do it!

You can see more of them here:

Or in my photo album here on PW! I am glad we chose to do it and highly recommend it. That said, my dress cost me $325 and if I had paid thousands I probably wouldn't have worn it for TTD, but frankly, I never would have bought a super expensive gown to begin with!

My husband and I are doing a TTD photo session in July for our wedding anniversary. I saw some beautiful and awesome TTD photos on trashthedress.wordpress.com and I thought it was a great idea. My husband really liked the idea too and it gives me another change to wear my dress one last time. We will be going to two great locations, to the beach and to a surprise location. I am really looking forward to it and I'm planning on making a photobook with these pictures for our wedding anniversary. Afterwards I'll get my dress cleaned and hang it back up in my closet. I also think the TTD photos is another great way to preserve your wedding dress in pictures.

I had never even heard of the "trash the dress" idea. Personally, I love it! Sadly, I can't think of a way to do it in December!

I will be doing a TTD session but I think when we hear TRASH we definitely think.. Rips, burns, "garbage"...

But a TTD session can be sooo romantic and creative!  It's soo cool to see a dress being used in such unusual places :)

I will be careful not to "ruin" my dress per say... But I definitely want to climb trees and such in my dress :) LOL!

FI didn't want me to trash it.. He wanted me to keep it forever in a box...

Maybe I'm just not that attached.. Because I'll have the photos to remember it by...  I don't want my dress to be trapped in a box in a closet somewhere.. I want it to be USED... Be WORN.. :)

So we shall see what comes about :)

I wouldn't dream of it. . .I love my dress and it has special meaning to me. . .I have to admit that I don't really like looking at TTD photos where the bride actually *ruined* her real ceremony dress.  It's a different story to get a cheap secondary one for that. . .but the real one you married in?

As a photographer I'm a sucker for bridal shots and TTD photos, however. . .so long as the dress comes out alive :)  Climbing trees and laying in the sand is one thing. . .but jumping in a mudpit is a whole other story. . .

I couldn't do it.  I'm really upset that mine is still dirty from our wedding 6 months ago since I haven't had the money to go get it cleaned.

I wanted to do this so I got a beautiful dress for 100.00 at david's bridal for this. My step father is a great photographer so to cut cost on the wedding he will do the pictures for us. Just an idea
