DRESS ALTERATIONS QUESTIONS

Hi ladies,

I went for my first fitting on january 13th and it didn't go quite like i expected. I was very excited to begin with but thats not how it ended. My friend took pics and i have to say i didn't look the same in the dress as when i tried it on at home after i was all pinned up in it. But the final part came after i was all pinned in and she working on my bustle etc., we take it off and she says my alterations will cost somewhere between maybe 500-550. HA! First the maybe got me. I toiled and toiled but i won't pay $500 for a nip and tuck. I know you get what you pay for and i'd rather pay good money and have it done right than pay less money and its botched but that could be the same scenerio vice versa right? Anyways long story short, called the alterations lady up, got my dress she told me i could bring it back if i couldn't find someone else. However i got it back and all these pin marks are in the dress and its driving me insane. Supposed i find someone else capable but pin marks are visible even after she is done. Anyone else experience this? are pin marks something that can come out of rhe dress, maybe with steaming or ironing?

I personally did not have an issue with this, but I did a search online and found nothing.  My suggestion would be to call a seamstress (if there is one in your area) and ask if they might be able to answer this question.

I agree with Becca about calling and inquiring with a seamstress! They would know for sure, as I never had this issue. :(

I work in a bridal alterations store in scotland and first off dont panic, pin marks come out very easy, your dress just needs steamed but I recommend taking it to a dry cleaners or somewhere where they proffesionally steam wedding dresses. As to the price, if your are talking a hem, bustle, taking in your bodice, it reaaalllyy shouldnt be that much, the most we charge for a wedding gown to be altered is about £150 which in dollars is $238. I personally think you should find somewhere cheaper.

Ummmm i paid $62 to get my dress taken out. I have seen people post about alterations consting $2-500 that's crazyyyyyy. I didnt get it hymned but if i did my alterations would have been under $100. Thats over priced. I asked her prior to leaving the store what my cost would be and thats exactly what i paid. Honestly word of mouth is the best info. Ask around. My friends reccomended mine shes well known in my community and she turned out to be great.

I spent $75 on my alterations I need it taken in a lot and I need to ADD a bit to my bust. losing weight+ 4 years of nursing+ age= Deflation and flat torpedoes. Hopefully that was not TMI and you find it as funny as I do.

Anyway, that does seem like a lot. I had a dress made from scratch that cost less than that and she IS a professional designer and she has won awards for her design work. I wish you lived up towards Massachusetts as I would have had you go to her!
