dress shopping - Has not started!

I see sooooo many brides with 2 or 3 or more dresses and I have not even seriously begun looking for one! Am I the only one who has not started dress shopping yet? My wedding is 9 months away and I know I should probably start soon, but i was just hoping that my gym/food program would start working and then I could be a better size. I went one time to David's just for fun and tried on a few things and I hated how I looked! This motived me to get more serious and that's when I got a trainer to work out with. However, as I have reported before, I have not really lost a single pound! VERY FRUSTRATED!

Do I need to just get over it and buy my fat A$$ a dress before it's too late?!

Find your dress before it is TOO LATE!!! If after you buy  the dress, you drop some weight, the dress can always be altered. :0)

Also, some designers can take anywhere from 3 months to 9 months for dresses to come in unless you buy off the rack. Mine too 8.5 months.

Start cracking girl...hehe..:0)

I went dress shopping the friday after I got my ring! I've lost weight since then and got my dress altered. You can buy a dress now and if you lose the weight get it taken it. My dress took 4 months to come in and then another 2 months for alterations.

Ya...it can be surprising how long it takes to get a wedding gown.  Mine took 5 months to come in...and its taking about 2 months for alterations.

girlfriend! get to thee store now! they say the absolute latest you should have a dress picked out is six months prior to give it time for it to either be ordered and delivered (unless you buy it off the rack then you're ok going maybe 3 months prior). So you have 3 months till your 6 month deadline if you're going to have to order yours! HIT THE GYM & DO ATKINS (or whatever diet plan works for you) ASAP!

i havent started trying anything on yet since my wedding is a year away.

I FINALLY ordered mine 6 or 7 months before the wedding and just got it.  I would DEFINITELY start looking now, I had a very hard time making a decision, etc.

As far as weight who cares, the dress makes you look so good haha Just buy the correct size, and you can always take it in...

i'm 9 mos out too....i already have my dress....it depends on where you end up buying from...David's doesn't take that long....even if you don't buy one in the store (they are cash and carry) if they order it, most likely takes a month or so...i would order now...i hope i lose a few lbs by the time i need my alterations, but i'm not pressuring myself to lose 20lbs or anything...so buy a size you can wear now...

I guess I have to stop procratinating huh? I don't plan on getting a supper fancy designer so I was hoping that it would not take months and months to recieve it. I just did not want to have to majorly alter it if I drop a bunch. Do I dare buy a size below what fits now as further incentive?

Anyone know about how long a Maggie Sottero can take?

My Maggie dress took almost 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and PLEASE learn from my mistake and buy the right size or even a bigger one, it is so much more stressful when you CANT fit your dress AND the weights not coming off~ I promise, this has been half my wedding stress.  I even had to take it out, which is no bueno....  New dresses are tighter too, since the samples have been tried on so much...

Sorry, fo the rant, I just frusterated myself with the whole wedding dress process! haha

aaaand - dont feel bad or be super shocked when they tell you that you should order size 12 and you normally wear a 8...

it's different for every designer *i think*... but this industry is wierd with all it's differnt sizing!

and HMM is right - order the size you are now - even if oyu do plan losing a bunch and dropping inches...  just some food for thought

One more question...what is the average cost range of a Maggie Sottero?

I heard that it now takes 6-8 months for a Maggie dress to arrive. I was interested in a Maggie gown and my dress shop warned me about the time it took to make. So, just a heads up.

Another option is to purchase a sample. Where are you located? If you're located in Southern Cal, try Karoza Designs. They can sell the sample to you for a great price. Their alterations are a bit steep though.

The Maggie's I tried on ranged from $700-$1400. It depends on the fabric and style of the gown.

I'd also suggest a Casablance or Mori Lee gown if you don't want to spend more than $1,000. They are reasonably priced and beautiful too!

any chance of getting your dress made locally? i'm doing this and the great part is that i don't have to go for my first fitting until six months before the wedding (four months from now) and even after that i can loose 10 - 12 pounds and they'll alter around it for free. this ended up working out really well for me as i'm hoping to loose about 20 pounds for the wedding.
