I quoted a corporate gig last week. Based on their information, I gave them a quote (they loved) they signed the contract and were to pay the retainer for services today.
I get an email telling me the numbers of their job changed and they now need MORE THAN DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF WORK which will take me DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF TIME.
So, I called and calmly told them that the fee quoted would be 2.6 the orginal quote based on the new information. Usually corporate is like, "Ok, we understand the parameters changed." BUT NO, the contact person acted as if I was ripping them off! She nearly insulted me on the phone saying they usually pay a QUARTER of what I was quoting. Really? Great, go let someone else prostitute themselves for you!
(ha, they have one week to find that person)
If I walk into a store and want to buy something that is $10, I dont' expect to then get 2.6 times that for the same price!
