Earthquake!! Los Angeles Area...

We just had a 4.2 Earthquake! I wish living in So. California we'd get used to this kind of stuff, but you never really do :(... No reports of major damage or injuries but still very scary!

It was out of Newhall, about 40 miles from Los Angeles. It may be too far from OC to have felt it.

Am I the only one that thoroughly enjoys earthquakes? Maybe I'm weird, but they don't bother me in the least lol.

Glad everyone is okay :)

So glad you posted this, I saw it right after, my aunt is in Pasadena and I called her before she even knew you all had had a quake.

FitzsiesGirl - I agree you never get used to them, but at least in CA you know what to do when you have one!

ridegrl1: Have you been through a big earthquake?  I've been through the 1994 Northridge earthquake and the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake.  I can't imagine anyone not being scared of them. I am terrified of them! :/

@FitzsiesGirl: I'm terrified of them too! You just never know how long they're gonna go or how big they're gonna get :/ Plus I live in Huntington Beach and there's a sign on my street that says "Tsunami Evacuation Route: In case of earthquake, move to higher ground." Not very comforting.

FitzsiesGirl - I used to be terrified of them, too.  I was in a 4.2 when I was in first grade - I think the quake was centered in Morgan Hill or Hollister.  I was in the Loma Prieta Quake of '89 - 7.2 magnitude (yes, I'm old ;)).  We were without power for 3 days and my middle school was closed for a week to assess the damage.

I moved to Colorado 16 years ago and while we are not famous for tornadoes, we do have them here.  The first time I went into lockdown at a doctor's office for a tornado warning (3 hours) I decided that I would take an earthquake any day - it shakes and is scary, but they don't last long and most of the time in Cali you get to hug your loved ones and get on with your life - I hope this helps! =)

I can't imagine being in a tornado either! Tsunamis, don't get me started! So Scary! During the Whittier Narrows earthquake my family and I were evacuated from our home and lived at a Red Cross shelter at a high school for about 1 week until our home had been inspected for safety. I remember the aftershocks, and I will never forget the shaking of the gym lights and doors.

I work in LA, right next to Universal Studios and I didn't feel a thing but I was outside when it happened. Everyone in my office says they were hiding under their desks?? Weird.
