I definitely have a problem sticking to my diet when I get stressed or unhappy. The last few times it has happened, I am happy to say I got through them. I just really tried to take a deep breath and think of what would really make me happy. Eating something bad or getting into my dream dress? and trust me, I had to force myself to sit there and think about it for A While. So just forced yourself to sit down and have an internal therapy session. It also help to talk to family. Hope this helps!

Yes I've always been an emotional eater - I'd eat to celebrate, when I was sad, when I was bored, when I was stressed - sometimes when I was hungry!  lol

Key is to find healthy alternatives to eating that you can engage in.   It can be anything that's not un-healthy:  take a 5 minute walk, drink a glass of water while slowly counting backwards from 10, spend a few minutes on a website you like (ideally PW  ;)  but a site like icanhascheezeburgers.com can do wonders to diffuse stress), call a friend, put on a favorite song and shake your bootay - whatever you have to do to get yourself past the stress and to a place where you can instead be proud of yourself for having resisted temptation during a trying time.

I ama HUGE emotional eater too. I wanted so badly to lose weight for the wedding and, back in October last year (ha!) I was SUPER motivated and even lost 20 lbs.....and then the closer it got the wedding and the longer I didn't have my visa the more stressed I got. My comfort food is a Chipotle burrito bol; like 2000 calories in one sitting and I'd be having like 3 of them a week because it made me feel better. DH was 8000 miles away and I found comfort in food when I couldn't find comfort in him. I didn't lose ANY weight before the wedding, I gained the 20 I'd lost plus 10 lbs. :(

Now I'm emotional because I've just done one of the most stressful things a person can; moved countries. I miss my family. I miss my home. I miss my friends. I miss the grass and the way the wind sounds in the trees. I miss everything.....and so I eat all the time.

I agree with Lorienne; the only thing that helps is realizing you are NOT hungry. You are stressed or sad and looking for a quick fix. The endorphines from a good run on the elliptical are so much harder to earn than the ones from a burrito bol but I feel SO GOOD after a work out and that's helping to keep me motivated.

very emotional... and I always eat crap like pizza! But also when my emotions (and stress level) are high I won't workout.... I will find every excuse not to. Even if I eat ok and leave the pizza alone... i just won't workout.

My big adjustment after the wedding too was a combination of boredom (no more planning to do but still tons of free time every day) and being sad that the wedding was over and the things that went wrong (it was a beautiful day, but I feel robbed in regards to some things that shouldn't have happened the way they did).

I had to kick myself in the pants one day because a pound crept back on. . .I know, one wimpy little pound, but that was enough for me.  I didn't want to return to my old weight, and that one pound was the first step.

Ditto on checking out icanhazcheeseburger or something silly like that!  You're thinking about food when you should be thinking about other things!

Congrats on overcoming the caffiene, good work :) :) :)

i have had so much stress due to my daughters health its been really hard so im focusing on what i have acheived.

i have even bought my dress in a 14 instead of a 12 coz i know that is more doable. buying a 12 would just be more strss again.
