Engagement Party

My fiancé and I are planning an engagement party on the beach. We want to invite our entire church because there won't be room to invite them to the actual wedding next May. Would it be bad to invite them to just the engagement party? How would I word the party invitations to explain that?

I think that would be a touchy subject. I think most pepple would assume they would be invited to the wedding if they attend the engagement party. You know them best. Would they be offended if they didnt get an invitation to the wedding?

Welcome to PW and congrats on your engagement!! I am assuming your wedding will be on the smaller side? Usually people understand if say you're doing a destination wedding where only immediate family will be there, etc...If so, maybe word it like this: "Mike & Beth are planning a small intimate wedding in Cancun over Thanksgiving weekend this year. Accordingly, we are hosting an engagement party so that we are able to celebrate our upcoming nuptials with all of our family and friends." I found this here: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/49355-engagement-party-invite-guests-not-invited-to-wedding/

Also, found this: http://www.savvysugar.com/Rude-Invite-People-Engagement-Party-Wedding-8489890

I think that's a little tricky, a lot of people are tossed up on this stiatuation. Kim is right, you know them best! Do what you think is best. To be honest, no matter what you do, somebody is bound to be offended, so just don't worry about it. lol. Are you close with all the people from your church? Do you have a big church? I would weigh all the pros and cons. good luck

Hello and welcome!

That is a touchy subject and very hard to explain to some guest.. I agree with what Elise (Uhlease) said. Wording it in some way that she showed an example would help explain it more to your guest without even to have to explain it over and over to everyone who will ask.

Good luck on planning!
