Exercise Challenge, anyone?

I'm wanting to shake up my routine a bit but I'm also a horrible creature of habit.  


I think I need to maybe swap out 4 of my 8 classes / month (currently I do bellydancing 4x/mo and water aerobics 4x/mo) for 4 new classes.  But I always get SO nervous when I go to a new class...afraid I won't be able to keep up, that I'll hate it and get frustrated overall, etc.


So, I'm trying to break out of that sort of mind trap I set for myself and expand my horizons.  


For accountability purposes, I wanted to post about it here and invite you ladies to maybe post about something you've wanted to try but have been hesitant to.  Let's challenge ourselves and each other!!!!


So, it's middle of September -- between now and the middle of next month I will swap out 4 of my tried and true class sessions and try the following 4 classes:


-Step Plus Abs


-Cycle


-Kickbox Cardio


-Mat Pilates


My ultimate goal is to swap in at least 2 of these new classes, each for 2x/mo, so I'm taking a total of 4 different classes over the course of each month.  Variety IS the spice of life, after all!  :)

I'm am going to hot yoga and pilates every week from now until the end of October - no excuses!!


I am going to do 30-45 minutes twice a week of eliptical/running - maybe one of each from now until the end of October.


November I will switch it up a bit...

I did a yoga class once and it KICKED MY BUTT!  Probably because I thought it was going to be all zen and relaxing but I thought I was going to die!  lol


I'll try it again once I feel a lot stronger.  Still a ways to go!

My little gym doesn't do classes, but I've committed to waking up at 4:45 am twice a week and going to the gym!  I can do it at least two mornings.... it is only 1 hour earlier than I'd normally get up.


My FI is off on Tues and Wed so he has committed to joining me for one of those days.  So overall, I get an hour to be alone with my thoughts, LOL, for one day a week and I get healthy!

ahhh....I HATE classes! I don't like people telling me what to do. LOL I will see if I can find a good DVD program to start though, that is something I want to do but haven't really looked into yet.


My excercise goal as of Monday is to do 45 minutes on the elliptical 6 days a week, and bump it up to 60 by Christmas. DH is finally off work and can go with me to sign up at the gym. YAY! (his employer has free memberships but I can't sign up unless DH is there) I've been so bored just walking and jumproping. I like my elliptical. And my treadmill. And the air conditioning. LOL

Woo hoo!  Can't wait to hear how we did with achieving our goals. 


 


My friend who I usually go to water aerobics with can't make it tomorrow so I'll either grab a new class TONIGHT or try a new one tomorrow morning.  I'm so excited/nervous!


And I'm such a dork for being nervous but I am!  lol

i have a lot of problems with my back at the mo so im easing myself back into things. but im def up for challenging myself to try my dvd atleast.

i've decided to take a tap dance class!!!! and maybe a japanese drumming class...


i went to this amazing amazing performance last night by a dance group that combines traditional japanese drumming with funky tap dancing, hip hop and a little martial arts. it's an all female dance group and all of them have killer arms. they wore pants for most of the performance, but i'm sure they have killer legs too. as i was reading the program, i discovered that they offer tap classes and drum classes, so i'm planning to check it out next week! i used to tap dance when i was in high school, so hopefully it will come back to me!

Clare, good plan to take it easy and not hurt your back worse.


 


jamichael, I bet tap dancing is a great workout!!!


 


Shan, have you considered PDX90?  I hear it's great and very varied!

So, on Saturday morning I took Kickbox Cardio and it KICKED MY BUTT!  I had to modify some of the exercises and had to stop to rest a few times but even though I kept wanting to quit, I finished the one hour class.   The instructor said I did "super awesome" for my first time.   :D 


 


Tonight I'm going to try Cycle (spin) class, if I can make it (it's an early-ish class and they just started making you make RESERVATIONS starting a half hour before class so not sure I will get there in time and/or get in) or if not I might try "Club Circuit Boxing" class.


So far my exercise challenge is going very well for me!

We have a friend just order the PDX90 system... he was trying to get all the guys to order it with him so they can have a challenge.... I think I am going to give my gym another try... I mean I have been paying for the membership and not going, so I might as well...
