expensive weddings

i was thinking about it today--- i know platinum weddings has been a super sucessful show, but imo i think that big, lavish affairs are sooo on the OUT.  i think that small, modest weddings are going to become very popular...and the resourseful bride will really shine.  there is something so beautiful about an intimate wedding to me.

plat. weddings is on in the background at my house tonight, and i'm just so over it.

what do you think?

I dont think they are on the way out because there are always going to be people with so much money they dont know what to do with it.

I do, however, agree that the DIY bride and pic nic weddings will become extremely popular with middle and lower class weddings!

I think the best weddings are the most personal ones, regardless of how much they cost. I have been to super expensive weddings that felt generic and kind of like a show the couple was putting on, and I have been to romantic and charming backyard weddings that have been absolutely amazing. I think its the details that make a wedding what it is, and the unique personality of the couple.

Never seen it, but I'm sure that the economic state we're in has people rethinking their priorities... I think weddings are so much more beautiful when stripped down to their essense: celebrating the love of two people. Too bad the wedding industry has gotten so out of control that very few weddings showcase this and only this...

I agree...the "in" thing seems to be people wanting their weddings to look lavish, but not with the high price.  DIY is definitely on the rise.  I never heard of anyone in my family or their friends doing as much as the brides on here are.  It's starting to click with some that you can do it with the right ideas and supplies.

I've had a lot of my friends discuss this, and when they hear their parents talk about huge weddings they'd much rather put on the wedding for less and have the money for a house, etc.  Plus, I think I'll take a lot of pride when people ask where my cute ____ came from and I can say I made it!

jmm, I saw a 1mm wedding in NYC and the flower cost was $50k. It didn't even look 50K worth of flowers to me.

I agree with the 'in' thing being all about DIY and making it personal. I'm so over the super expensive floral and crystal centerpieces and invitations that cost 1k+.

I also think people are learning to be more resourceful and eco-friendly by renting/borrowing/re-purposing wedding realted items. I personally don't care how much a wedding costs. I've seen some friking ugly weddings that cost 50K and stunning ones that cost less than 5K.

I also think it's funny...literally I laugh...when I see girls in some designers gowns that cost over 3K and it looks exactally like something I tried on that cost around $500. haha. I just feel like saying 'hey... you know you got ripped off right".

But hey- that's just me!

I agree.  Even though I love to watch the show for ideas and such, I never wanted anything but a small, intimate affair.
