Father Daughter dance - father disabled and in a wheelchair

Good Afternoon,

My father has a real bad joint disease where basically his hip joints come out of socket when he stands/walks etc.  He can still stand and walk, but not very far or for too long or he will fall.

For the ceremony my uncle (my dad's brother) is walking me down the aisle, where Daddy will stand and give me away.

Because of his condition, I ASSUMED that we wouldn't be doing a father daughter dance..but in conversation with him over the weekend, he WANTS to do one.

So my question is, for those of you who may have a wheelchair bound father/relative..how did you do your father/daughter dance? Did you stand and dance and while he danced and spun around in his wheelchair, did you sit on his lap? He really threw me for a loop because I didn't think this was something he would want to do but by the tone of his voice he is looking very forward to it so I gotta be sure he gets to have that moment.

I can't post them cause of being on my computer at work, but there were some great examples on YouTube. I am so happy for your Dad that he wants to dance with his little girl! That is so sweet!

I am so glad that you are going to have that dance. I am sure that you will find a way to make it comfortable for both of you.

When I was in a wheel chair due to a car wreck in 1997 and wanted to dance my hubby just took my hand and pulled me around or pushed and yes spun me. Though I was not happy when he dipped me. I still have to use a walker, or a cane, but I am able to dance for a short while hence our one dance which is an easy and gentle foxtrot.

i would suggest maybe finding a dance class.  you and hubby may want to take a few classes, and in one of the classes you could bring your dad along and figure out what works best.  a pro could have some good tips and know some things to avoid so that neither of you get hurt.
