Father/Daughter without Father

My Dad passed away in 2010 and I was thinking of doing something special during my wedding in place of the father/daughter dance. I thought I could run a video with pictures and video clips of my Dad and I with music in the background. Or maybe I could choose a song in rememberence of him and dance with my brothers. Or maybe do a mother/daughter dance.

There's so many ideas but it's hard to choose.

I was wondering if anyone else had their wedding without their father and what they did for the father/daughter part of the wedding.

I went to a wedding this past weekend where the mother of the groom has passed a few years back. When it came time for the dances, the groom and his sister lit a memorial candle near a picture of their Mom, then they danced together. It was so sweet and an awesome way to include her in the wedding!

That's nice. I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

All of those sound like very lovely ideas, I don't think you can go wrong with a special remembrance. That viral video going around where the brother sings a song while all the special men, like uncles and the grandpa, dance with the bride is a tear jerker!

My dad also passed away in 2010. My FI's mother passed away 5 years ago. We are leaving a seat at the ceremony in remembrance of them and a candle will be lit at the reception. The death of my father still affects me drastically and I just don't want to be an emotional wreck so this is our alternative.

I think all of these are such sweet ideas to remember a loved one who has passed away. You could even combine them and dance with your mom, or brothers, uncles, whomever you choose and have a slideshow with pictures of your dad playing in the background.

Ugh! It hurt watching that video! I don't know how I will keep it together come time for my wedding. But that was really special. I do have a little bit of video and some pictures of my father that I'd probably make a slideshow like suggested above. It's such a sensitive topic still so I don't know what I'll do. Thanks for the advice and sharing your stories with me.

I understand your pain. I lost my mother in 2009. so it was hard for me too. I did have a father daughter dance, but half way through the song i had my sisters to join in! it was beautiful!
