Favors

Hi everyone....I am getting married this October and am stumped in regards to favors. We will be paying for most of the wedding ourselves so we really don't want to spend a ton of money on favors. I was thinking about caramel apples, then I thought about cute packets of apple crisp mix tied with a personalized ribbon. I just can't see spending an arm and a leg on something silly that people are going to throw away. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks

i like the idea of a candy buffet. but i also like the candy apple idea too...it could be very affordable. i think i'm going to do a photobooth as our favors and a little frame to go w/ the pics. not cheap but i really want it.

Food is always a great favor! I think your apple crisp idea sounds great, and would be very appropriate for a fall wedding. If you wanted to personalize it even more, you could make tags with a little poem or message or your guests. Candy apples look great as favors, but I think your guests are more likely to eat the apple crisp mix. Other food favor ideas could include local apple butter/jam, mini bottles of apple cider with personalized labels, or maple-related food (syrup, cookies, tea, etc).

I completely agree! We just had a discussion on PW about this a couple days ago. Don't feel bad if you do not have favors- sometimes there so lame its not even worth it IMO. There have been a lot of cute ideas on here for more affordable options. Its seems like the edible ones are more favorable as well.

Some ideas off the top of my head:
- Something edible- chocolates or candy apples are always good
- Candy bar
- Donation to a charity, etc
- Lotto ticket idea. "Lucky in love" or "Wishing you riches from the new Mr. & Mrs" etc.

- HMM :)

Personally, having been a guest at many a wedding, I don't really take much notice of the favors. Many times, they are things that get left behind anyway. If you are trying to save money and are only doing favors because you feel like you are SUPPOSED to, then don't! :) I don't go to weddings expecting to get something. I don't think your guests would miss it one bit... IMO! :)

Thank you all so much for your advice....I think I am driving my MOH nuts!!!! Forgive my ignorance, but what is IMO??? I do like the ideas of apple/butter jelly. I do not have one creative bone in my body and really do appreciate your responses.

i'm all about edible favors

how much are you comfy spending on favors??

we're using full-size choco bars from hershey that will also act as the place card (or whatever it's called)

imo- in my opinion

how about popcorn balls??
leaf-shaped cookies
depending on your colors, candy corn in a little bag??

You can also buy custom candy, with your monogram or cute message printed on- that would be affordable and easy. Not sure how much you want to spend, but my friend did the candy apple thing and it was a little pricey... Maybe shop around for the best price or bulk discount?

Thanks for clarifying the IMO...lol...my colors are plum and sage green. I am going to have about 130 guests and really didn't want to spend more than $200.

Ooh lipia your colors sound so pretty! It gave me another idea - another relatively inexpensive and beautiful type of favor could be fresh fruit. You could use as a centerpiece, as escort cards (with a little favor tag - say, a little leaf-shaped tag wrapped around the stem of an apple), or just at the place settings with the same kind of tag or ribbon. I think the red of apples would go beautifully with your colors, and would look really fresh.

For my favors, I'm getting champagne flutes, then sandblasting our monogram and date on it. that way guest can toast and take the glasses home. Safes me on hiring glasses and one less stress about guest breaking them and me paying breakage fees.

Why don't you make it personal? I agree with the earlier post, most people barely even notice the favors. We decided to make a donation to something that was important to us. Since we're both in the military, we donated phone cards to soldiers in Iraq. With the donation, you can also limit the amount of money you have to spend.

why not make a donation to charity in honor of your guests? That way you can keep the cost down but it's still a heartwarming alternative to traditional favors. I'm doing this with Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation and for less than $1 per guest I'm getting a personalized scroll at each table that says: a donation was made in your name by Lisa and Shaun.

Or if you want to get fancier and have them on a 'wish tree'. The charity is really great and will work with your budget and theme!! It's nice to give back on such a special day!

We're going to have fans for each of our guests. Our wedding is outside and it will be warm, so we thought it would be a cute idea to help keep them cool. Still not sure if we're going to get our names and date put on them, or if we'll tie ribbon and a card or something like that to each one. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Brianne I am located in MA. is there a website for the place in LA that sells the apples? I do like the idea as well of donating to a charity. I'll have to discuss with my FH and see what we agree on. again, thanks so much everyone. I think my MOH is thrilled that I found this forum as well....LOL...she's a great person though...so far she hasn't gotten upset with me once (at least not that I know of).

I went to a wedding before where they set a disposable camera on each table and let the guests have fun taking silly shots of eachother at the table... Then they had the film developed and sent copies to the people at each table with their thank you's... It's a cute and different idea, and I would do it myself, but it seemes expensive for a favor, and I don't have a lot of money to spend... The Scratch off idea is what I'm using and I think it;s a great idea because at least one person is bound to win and they will have fun with it :) Good Luck!
