Finally a diagnosis!

First off I will appologize ahead of time for the long post. I know I haven't been very active on here lately but I'm slowly trying to separate myself from the TTC obsession. I have shared that DH and I are planning on taking a break after this cycle (which is due to end soon). Recently my family has been pushing me to have my thyroid re-checked since I have so many of the classic symptoms. I have gone to a couple dr.'s over the last few years to be checked but was brushed aside because my TSH was "normal". With more research I have found that those docs were using outdated ranges and my Levels have actually been elevated for at least 3 years. I had my levels re-checked yesterday and they are now very high, so today I was officially diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started on Levothyroxine. I also recieved a referral to an endocrinologist. This could be part of why I have had problems concieving and possibly be the reason for my m/c. While it means taking a pill every day for the rest of my life, I am trying to be hopeful that correcting this issue will help us have a family.  It will probably take several months to figure out the proper dosing and get my levels under control. Good luck to all you ladies continuing your TTC journey. I'll pop in from time to time to update and check in on you all

I'm glad you're finally getting answers! I had a friend who had hypothyroidism diagnosed while TTC. Good news is she has an adorable (almost 3 yr old) boy, and her condition has been in remission since pregnancy. Her dr told her that is common. FX

I also have hypothyroidism - I am so sorry it took so long for the drs to diagnose you!  You will probably have to go through a few adjustments to your dose as your levels come back into range, but I began to feel a difference in about 3 weeks' time when I started.

I hope they find a good control level quickly! =)

Just a quick update.  After only 3 weeks on 50mcg Levothyroxine my TSH levels went from 12.3 to 1.66. Optimal range is supposed to be 1-2. Hopefully I will maintain that level but it will take a few months to be sure. I deffinitely feel less crazy now and not exhausted all the time. I have always been very sesitive to hormones but I really did not expected that kind of improvement so fast. Seeing the endocrinologist on the 18th to learn more about treatment and follow up. DH and I have pretty much decided that we are no longer going to actively TTC so if it happens it happens, if not then we will survive.

Update: After 7 months and 3 medication adjustments my thyroid levels are still not controlled. I keep yoyoing, meds get Increased I feel better for a couple of weeks then right back to where I started. I just made an appointment with a second endocrinologist because the first one just brushed me off. Still having irregular cycles and ovulating late. I have pretty much given up all hope of ever having a child of my own. DH and I are starting to discuss the possibility of adoption when he is done with school but that is a couple years off. Right now I am just working on accepting the hand I've been dealt. Even after 2 years and knowing the likelihood of getting a BFP is slim to none, I am still devastated every time af shows

I am so sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine how frustrating and heartbreaking your journey has been. Is there an medication you could take to help your cycles/ovulation? I am thinking of you! I know how hard to all must be.

Thank you. I have tried Clomid in the past but still ovulated late. Until my thyroid issues are fixed there is no point of TTC since my risk of m/c or complications is greatly increased. Just frustrated with Dr's right now. Still trying to find someone that is up to date on current research and treatments

I am okay. Some days are harder than others. I am trying to work on acceptance. It helps to vent a little, nobody I know personally has any idea how hard this is and I am surrounded by babies and prego's every day. How are you doing? Did you get that polyp removed?

Oh hun, I understand pretty well how you are feeling!!!! I was having some weird issues, no AF for months, exhausted, hormonal acne, the list goes on. I had been tested many times for a cause but I guess that they neglected to check my Thyroid until this past January. My TSH came back at 19.46 which shocked my dr and me!! They started me on 25mcg of Synthroid (which I thought all along was WAY too low of a dose for that level but at least it was a start) and then 6 weeks later I went up to 50mcg as my TSH was still at 10. I'm going for more blood work tomorrow and am anticipating another increase but we'll see what the numbers show!

I didn't even notice there was an issue until I went off my BC and didn't get AF for months. I have only had one since January...which as we are TTC is so frustrating!!!! As a nurse I have seen lots of mothers with hypothyroid so I know it doesn't mean you can't conceive, but it does make it more challenging. I hope that for you it is just a matter of becoming regulated on the medication. Synthroid can take a year or so to actually have a full effect so don't give up yet!!!!! I'm sending good vibes and love your way.

Thanks Alyciamarlene, I appreciate all the good vibes I can get. I have patients all the time delivering with no problems that have hypothyroidism so I know it's possible. My last dose increase I was put on 100mcg of Levothyroxine and 10mcg of liothyronine which apparently is too much. My TSH on Monday was 0.24, but I feel so much better. I know I'll probably have to back off on the meds a bit and I'm trying not to be too hopeful but it's nice that I can finally feel my body kicking back into gear. I hope you are able to regulate quickly  and have a healthy baby.

It's such  a battle to find that happy place with your TSH. But that's awesome that you were starting to feel like yourself again! My family laughs at me because everytime I go get blood work done I hope that I need an increase in my dose because I love finally feeling like I have energy and I just want more of that feeling!!!!!
