I found my dress with the first one I tried on Davids Bridal. Pics are in my profile. Don't know how to post them here. I tried on several after the first one and knew it was the one. Its a $700 wedding dress that I got for $99. What a steal. But it may cost me $200 to have it altered. Oh well, still I found my dress, rang that bell and its wonderful having that out of the way.

That is awesome!! Enjoy it first and foremost. Don't feel like you have to find your dress first day, though some brides do. Wear strapless bra :) And try on any and every style you can! Sometimes what you think you might like won't look good on you, or vice versa!! I thought I wanted chiffon, flowy, one strap...and I ended up with satin, poofy, and sweetheart neckline! lol. So be open!!! Cant wait to see pics and hear all about it!!

How exciting! I am going at the end of February and early March.  I'm so happy for you.  This is something I am really looking forward to so I know how excited you must be.  Let us know how it turns out.  Include pictures if possible :)

My only advise is take supportive people with you. You want this to be a happy day and not filled with unnescessary criticism. Other than that don't get overwhelmed and only try on a few. I found mine the second time I went. HAVE FUN!!!!

I totally agree with Uhlease and Rigormort! From my own experience with David's Bridal, please make sure you get a consultant at the store that is listening to you and attentive. The first time I went to try on dresses, I went to the largest David Bridal in Michigan and my consultant gave me the wrong size bra three times and she was not there to zip me in dresses or help me take them off. I found my dress at this store, but when I went back to purchase it the price increased. The second go round I went to a smaller store near my job and I got attention from two consultants and the manager. They were very hands on listening to my needs and wants. I really loved the dress I originally had chosen, so the second go round I was trying to find something near to it. The manager brought me out a dress with ruching that was gorgeous, in my price range, but it had a sweetheart neckline. I am top heavy and never wanted a sweetheart neckline, but they were gushing over me so I decided to go with it. After looking at pictures of myself spilling over in the dress, I decided I didn't want it because I didn't feel like a bride. My second visit the consultant begged me to retry the dress but without a bra. She said because she was top heavy and she knew the bra was the problem. I took the bra off and I was stunned at the difference. There was something still off about the dress, so the consultant brought a sash out, put it on me with the veil so I could see the whole vision and I started crying.

Here is the dress I originally wanted

does anyone have any advice on what to do during a wedding dress search?  I looked online through David's Bridal website about a million times over and started saving pictures of all of the dresses I liked, regardless of how much it cost.  I am a total nerd and started making spreadsheets of the pros, cons, and then how much it cost and narrowed it down from there.  I ended up with one dress in particular that I LOVED (my actual dress) and a few that were top contenders.

how did it feel?  I had a blast.  FI was actually the only person with me and we made it fun and relaxed.  The consultant did a rating system where I had to close my eyes and her and FI would rate the dress 1 through 10 but not tell me.  Then I had to rate it and state why.  We would all then compare what we thought.  It made it a lot of fun and it was a great way of communicating what we liked overall.

also , did you find your dress on the first day you looked?  I did!  I had been eyeing a dress in particular for months.  My friend had gotten married a little before I became engaged so I had many opportunities to go with her and look and could not get this particular dress out of my head.  It was the fifth dress I tried on and I wore the dress for two hours that day.

Here is a picture the first day I tried it on, and in my bridal pictures.

Above all, make it a ton of fun and don't allow yourself to get over whelmed.  This is your day and your dress.  Go with what you love, what makes you happy, and what shows of your true self.  Good luck!

That is SO exciting!! I agree with the other ladies that you should keep an open mind with styles but stick to your budget while doing so. I really wanted a dress with ruffles on the bottom and tried one on and actually hated how it looked! Surprisingly, I didn't pick my dress out at first and my girlfriends convinced me to try it on. Once it was on, I loved it! With that being said, stand up for what you like and want. It is easy for other people and consultants to try to convince you that a dress is "your dress" even if you don't like it.

The dress shopping process felt surreal to me. It was a little overwhelming but really fun too! I did get my dress the first time I went but then was a little sad that it was over with! Definitely have fun with it! :)

Here's mine:
