Florida anyone?

Wondering if anyone has gone to Florida for a honeymoon? Was there a good place to go, stay, things to do? And does anyone know if Florida is good to visit in September with the rain and all?

Thanks!

My fil lives in Florida and their hurricane season is from August to the end of October.  So this is not the best time to go.  We ended up getting stuck out there during September and it wasn't fun.

I'm in Florida! What kind of activities do you like to do? If you like beaches Tampa, Clearwater, Ft Lauderdale are nice, if you like to golf basically the entire state is great but Ponte Vedra has the golf museum, if you like amusement parks - Orlando. If you like shopping/dining/going out Miami is always nice. My favorite parts are Boca Raton and Palm Beach. If you like sailing/fishing the keys are also really nice.... Oh and if you are on a budget, one last hidden gem is definitely Pensacola/Destin - the water is emerald green, the sea is calm since its the Gulf of Mexico and the sand is white like sugar... and since its off the general tourist radar, its affordable. Obviously that's a glossed over list but its a good place to start! The rain is really the summer months... it tends to slow down by September.

I'm in Florida as well.  Hurricane season is literally half the year here, so don't let that scare you (it runs through the end of November now I believe).

September is a nice time of year; it's still hot, but not beastly hot (and I think Sept and Oct are some of the drier months here).

The Golf museum above actually isn't in Ponte Vedra but in St. Augustine -- called World Golf Village.  There's a museum, shops, a resort, and obviously golf.  It's inland a bit; if you head out to the coastal part of St Augustine, there's tons of cute lil B & B's, a gorgeous historic hotel, art galleries and tons of cute shops and restaurants.  Lots of history, walking ghost tours, charter boats, etc....

The southwest coast is also gorgeous - Sanibel Island (and ther's another island right next to it) is amazing.

The beaches in Destin and Pensacola are seriously some of the prettiest beaches you'll ever see -- white sugar sand and clear, clear water.  There's also a LOT of golfing and other sports in Destin.

I live in Florida and St.Augustine is a nice place to visit with historic ambiance. The Keys are also beautiful. I live in Central Florida near Orlando which you could always go to the theme parks and other attractions. The golf coast has the nicest beaches and Tampa and Sarasota are nice to visit. A girl I used to work with went here on a trip with her FI and loved it! http://www.turtlebeachresort.com/

I am honeymooning on Captiva Island - it's right next to Sanibel on the Gulf Coast.  We're going Oct. 6 - Oct. 13, 2008.  My fiance did a bunch of research about their weather, etc. and it should be awesome (cross my fingers) around that time.  I believe that September is much the same, at least in that area.   Captiva is nice and quiet - great restaurants (and on Sanibel as well).  There are a lot of condos and homes to rent, as well as two hotels I think.  It is a short drive to the mainland and all that Ft. Myers has to offer.  HTH

i spent 22 years in florida before i moved to california.

i'm partial but jacksonville is a really nice place to visit since you can do day trips.  you're 2.5 hours from orlando, an hour from amelia island or st. augustine and depending on where you're staying, close to ponte vedra beach.  plus jacksonville rarely gets effected by hurricanes - not sure why but we never had a scare the entire time i lived there.

i agree with neebeelung - september and october are probably the better months to visit.  but a warning - it rains pretty much every day, even if it's for 15-20 minutes.

Thanks for all the help everyone!! That really helps out a lot. I was looking into the Clearwater beach area at first, but that Pensacola sounds amazing as well! If anyone else has suggestions let me know, but thanks for the help again!

I live in the Tampa area of FL and Clearwater is only 45 minutes from where I live.  I would NOT suggest Clearwater.  The tourist area is very skeezy and not where you would want a Honeymoon.  Sand Key Beach (which is close to clearwater and the beach I had my wedding on) is very nice.  I would suggest Fort Lauderdale, Anna Maria Island, Ponte Vedra (BEAUTIFUL area near JAX), or Captiva.

Check out pvresorts.com   (We stayed there on our 1st Honeymoon and loved everything about it. Fireplace in the bedroom, walk out the french doors to the beach).

Also another pretty place is Amelia Island.  Google all the places I told ya! :)

Here's a link to an article about the Jax Bridezilla.

I wasn't paying attention and only recognized my hometown when she caused a scene in Worman's Bakery downtown.

I would say Houston is about equal to Florida except the regular in rains in Summer FL are a relief from the heat. In Houston, I've noticed that when it rains it really pours and floods! When is your honeymoon going to be cryflore? It really depends on the time of year from what I've noticed. Florida in the winter is really nice.

Thanks for the link!!

Yes it's humid here! Like 100% humidity! Florida is best in Feb, March and April it's breezy around 70 degrees and doesn't rain so much!
