Florist Contract Rules

We put a deposit down on a florist to reserve our date...we are also suppose to sign and fax over the contract as well, however I have not done this yet.  I have not signed it yet because the centerpiece has not been fully finalized as far as how many and the design.  Does anyone know about contracts w/ florists and if I were to sign and send them the contract as it stands now is that what the agreement is on or can the details be adjusted after also?

TIA

I did the same thing: Signed the contract and gave my deposit. At that time, I barely had anything done (only the venue and church). My florist said that my designs may change throughout the planning. She also said my ideas may change once I find my dress.

And she was right! I found my dress, changed my motif, changed my colors, as well as centerpiece designs = complete restructure.

We're going to meet to go over our new ideas about 3months before the wedding, and once more to finalize the details about a month before the wedding.

HTH! Good luck!

I think it really depends on how flexible your florist is.  I signed and put a deposit down with my florist and changed the type of centerpiece and florals many times.  If there was a difference in cost, she'd let me know.  I ended up paying more than my original contract because I added on different things which was fine with me.  As long as she was up front with me and I had her save my date, I was perfectly happy!

However, there was another florist that I had checked into that I thought was a little shady.  She kept pressuring me into booking her before I had even met anyone else.  She wanted me to put a 30% deposit down on the same day I met her.  She wasn't clear on the types of flowers she was going to use and kept saying, "don't worry about it, we'll use whatever flowers you want"  I didn't book her thankfully.  However, I know someone that did.  She totally went back on her word on the contract with the types of flowers and wanted to charge more (which is normal) but just her promising things that she didn't honor.  Her mock up was smaller in size than she promised as well.  My friend ended up cancelling her and losing her deposit but she didn't like the mock up and felt uncomfortable with this vendor.

Sorry for the long post.  It really depends on your florist but I'd put in as much info as possible in the contract including the types of flowers and size of centerpiece bowls, etc.

Thanks Girls!

That is what I was hoping to hear :) Her contract was very detailed and I am pretty sure it could be altered, but was a little scared to send the contract for some reason even though she already had the $$$... I just hope she emails me back soon and hope it's doesn't increase the price too much :)

Wow...that does sound shady.

Most florists will work with you - you just need to be prepared to pay increases if your changes involve more flowers or expensive flowers. There is a certain amount of breathing room though.

It is a good idea to book early. I have booked 3 weddings for Oct. of next year already.

Talk to yoru florist about the flexibility before you sign the contract. But the contract is in place to protect you as well.
