florist trouble! =(

so i went in to see my mock today and something felt off about the color.  Im having bold colors, but my colors are often mstaken by vendors as "neon" which is definitly not what i'm going for.

when we saw the mock we expressed that it didn't look very full (centerpieces are suppose to be tall and round) and that it looked a bit too bright, something was off about the colors.  she disnmissed the fullness by saying thats how it looks and she'd there were 40 roses and asked us to go back tommorrow when she has a differnt color of one of the flowers.

I went home and my contract states 60 roses.  I called her to express my concearn and she was very upset and said since i downgraded my overall package and since im not spending as much money as before that she wasn't going to make enough proffit on me.  But i'm still paying what she quoted me for the centerpeice!?  she said she's giving me a great price and that i can go get quotes elsewhere but my wed is only a few weeks away.  she kept telling me how she's not making any profit on me.

now i'm concerned that she will not do a good job on my centerpeices, and those were one of the most important elements...help...what should i do??

Yikes, she sounds like my florist. Always telling me she's not making money on me. UGH..I hate that! Perhaps you can use other types of flowers (that are not as expensive) as fillers so that your centerpieces look fuller with 40 roses. I would also confirm that she is not charging you for 60 roses per your contract.

I think it's unprofessional too, Jackie. We're however going through a family friend, so I guess that's her way of emphasizing that she's giving us a great deal. I just feel like if you're going to give someone a "good deal" just do it and shut up about it. But throw it back in their face.

I am sorry...but I don't think anyone would do something for someone else at "no profit" its just something business owners say to guilt you...if your contract says 60 and you are paying the price you are quoted and thats in the contract then you should get 60 roses...a contract is a contract...IMO

Yea, she sounds extremely shady to me! Cash? Why would that matter? Unless she is trying to avoid paying taxes. In which, you are obviously getting no benefit from. Have you paid her any deposits?

no cash. You can't trace it. What is the difference to her with a check and cash, if they are both coming on the day of. Sounds shady. Just tell her that you are paying for everything from the same checking account so you can keep track of all of your spending and that she is welcome to cash the check as soon as she gets it when she delivers the last flowers. DON"T PAY THIS LADY UPFRONT! She sounds like she might not show if you do that.

This sounds very unprofessional. I agree with mhanna, why woud she take you as a client if she wasn't going to make any profit? I think she's trying to guilt trip you so she can give you less flowers than your contract states. I'd tell her that you expect her to honor the terms of your contract regardless of how much money she will be making. Whether she makes a profit or not is not your problem! If the contract says the centerpiece will have 60 roses, then it should have 60 roses. At a time like this, she needs to put friendship aside and do her job. Maybe talk to the family friend and ask them to talk to the florist.

Get this cleared up as soon as possible to avoid a florist with a grudge on your wedding day. You don't want to look at photos of your flowers and only see disappointment.

Good luck!

oh, i didn't mean that they shouldn't make a profit....that's why they're in business....i just think it's kind of uncool for them to flat out say that to clients....

she's not a family friend, she's actually a highly recommended florist on this site.  I'm even open to suggestions of just making the centerpeice look fuller with other flowers, not necessarily roses.

when i go in tommorrow to see the other mock, what should I say?  I just want her to do a nice job on my florals and live up to her reviews.  I don't want to pay her cash and don't know what to tell her...

coach me please!!

or tell her she can use 40 blooms - but adjust the $$ accordingly??

just be confident and dont let her (or anyone else) bully you into paying cash upfront for something you cant see til the day of... and if it doesnt feel right - listen to yourself...

i dont know how hard-core you are or can get - but me??  if i dont like something - i am always prepared to walk away... there are way too many vendors (wedding and otherwise) who will do the job w/o the added bullsh!t

GL hon!

Go to Organic Bouquet and pick the rose color you want. I can setup the order and you can pay direct to them with my wholesale discount. The price on 200 roses wholesale and organic is $150 including shipping. They also have greens and other fillers. Email me a pic and I can have it all shipped out to you and you can have your day of or a friend of a friend do it. If you want to tip me for my work of setting it up you may.

Ok, when you go in:

1. Don't bring ANY cash with you, or even your check book, only credit cards

2. bring your camera

3. Bring your contract (make a copy and leave the original at home)

4. Bring a friend with you

When you talk to her:

If you love the new flowers, tell her so and say that you are glad that you two are seeing eye to eye now.

If you hate them, tell her that you were expecting something different, something like what you discussed before you signed the contract.

If she tries to not give you 60 roses, tell her that she put the exact number in the contract and that is what you expect, don't let her say anything else about it. Just point out that you expect her to honor the written contract you have.

I would say "flower lady, I know you can do a great job on flowers, you came highly recommended on PW. We agreed on pricing, no one forced you to sign this contract against your will. I really am looking forward to my wedding and this is taking away from my excitement. I will send you a picture tonight of EXACTLY what I want my flowers to look like, so you have something to go off of. If you have any questions please let me know right away. My (father, planner, cousin, whoever) will have the checks for all of the vendors at the reception so when you deliver there they will give you the balance of our contracted fee."

If she tries to rip you off and put in less flowers, then you will need to file a complaint and maybe take her to small claims court. Be sure to photgraph the flowers right when they are delivered. Hope this helps!!
