Fresh or Frozen Turkey For Thanksgiving?

Hey beautiful wifeys!!! We are using a frozen turkey this year, but I was wondering if cooking a fresh turkey is that different than a frozen one?

We might possibly be getting a fresh one for Christmas and I would like to know if it a ton of work before getting myself into a mess that I might not want.  LOL.

TIA!

LOL, I hear ya, Becca!

We also got a frozen turkey. I think more out of habit with what I saw growing up - my mom always bought a frozen one (and then delayed thawing it every year, so it was thawed in the sink with cold water right up until it went in the oven, lol!)

I was reading up on the differences this year, and the only things I really noticed were the need to cook them very quickly after purchasing (obviously) and the fact that fresh turkeys often have a more game-y taste. Also, I think there may be some healthier options with the fresh turkeys related to hormones, anti-biotics, etc. As for actual preparation, NO idea how that would differ!

We always get a fresh turkey and there is no difference in the two. You want to pick up your fresh turkey 2 days prior. It was come in a package just like a froze turkey and keep it in the fridge. Before you cook it rinse it off and make sure you take out the inards (EWW) and cook it according to the package. I personally don't think that it has a game-y taste to it at all. The biggest difference is that the fresh has never been frozen!

Hmmm, I have only tried frozen turkeys.  I do not like the game-y taste.  I think I'll take the chance and get a small fresh turkey for Christmas and see how it goes.  : )
