Frustrating picking a venue!!

So I found a beautiful venue on an Air Force Base here in San Pedro, CA....fell in love until we got the price quote! $16,200 :( WTF??? The food was like $8,000 something alone! Why do these places charge soooo much for food!~ UGH~! so then we checked out Cabrillo marina (beautiful with a hotel next to it), but just trying to figure out if it's right for us (way cheaper price like $3500 for the spot with reception). Then looking at a church..which is the cheapest and a nice view for only $1800...it's not really what I had in mind, but it's very good for the price and my friend said we could turn it into what I want. Found another beach front for cheap like $1,000 bucks, but downfall is the food will costs about $8k ..uuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggh!

Just frustrating.. sucks...if anyone has tips on how to pick a venue like how much you are expected to spend vs. how much you can save please offer. I am stressed and only been engaged for a week and half!

I can be totally frustrating at first!!! First of all congrats! If you've only been engaged a week and a half, just breathe ;)

Have you and your FI decided on a budget yet? Having a specific price in mind and what you don't want to go over will make some decisions easier. We have some SoCal brides on here, if you were to post in the main forums, they might be able to help!

So first is deciding on a budget, and possible guest list (just number of people) will help :)

Feel free to pm me if you ever need to as well! All the Hostesess have tons of great info to help with!

Welcome to PW from a So Cal bride (vow renewal) who lives fairly close to you!  Feel free to PM me anytime.  Will the cheaper beachfront place let you bring in your own caterer or must you use theirs (I assume)?  Have you looked at the venue reviews here on PW?  That might help a bit.  What about outside Pedro - LBC or MDR to increase your possibilities?

Uhlease has some good points too re: getting your budget set & your guest list determined first.  LA can be expensive but there are places to have weddings that can be affordable such as restraurants with private rooms, etc.  Try to "think outside the box" if you can.  Best wishes!

Thank you ladies! I am apart of the SoCal group , but posted here first since it's the "Venting " group :) Yeah I will check around, and we have set some sort of budget cause Erhart's by the Sea was out of the question for sure. I have, and am still checking Long Beach.

Trying to breathe is hard lol...but I am working on it. I have out of town guests to consider so trying to pick a place as soon as we can! I will PM you (whatever that means;will learn) :)
