Gaining weight after 1st week :-((

I've heard it's somewhat normal to gain weight after your first week of exercise/dieting, but boy is it unhelpful!!!

I was soo soo upset at my starting weight, and I figured when I weighed myself this week even 1 lb. or 1/2 lb. would have come off.  Nope. 1.5 lbs. UP.

Are you lifting?  I know it is general knowledge, but muscle weighs more than fat :)  I would recommend taking measurements instead of weighing in :)  I bet you will feel better with the results.  I always feel heavier after I work out.  I feel all boated :(  Don't give up, we are all here!

I agree with ryeb. I take measurements and pictures every Monday. I don't notice that my body has changed, even after losing 20 lbs I think I still look the same... I need to see the measurements and pictures to prove it to myself that I have lost that much weight. I do weight myself daily.... I'm crazy like that. I also keep track of what I eat and what exercises I do ever day.

did you weigh yourself at the same time of the day that you initially weighed yourself? that makes a difference too!

either way, don't get discouraged! just know that you are doing the right thing for your body and your health, so keep at it and you will see those lbs slip off soon enough!

Thanks girls! I took pictures at the "start" of my journey and plan to again in a few weeks.  I hope I see the difference then!

Don't forget to drink your water!!! It can make a HUGE difference! My weight can actually swing 1-1.5 lbs on a daily basis if I dont' drink enough water :)

Everything that the girls saying here is true..

Another thing that happens when people first start to exercise is they eat more. But they eat too much. Don't get me wrong, the more you exercise, the more fuel you need to supply your body with, but some people eat too much more, so they still are not burning as many calories as they are consuming.

Not saying this is what you're doing. It was interesting when I found it out. The best way to prevent it is to keep a food journal so you can see exactly what you are eating every day :)

Depending on the type of exercise you are doing too, and esp if you are sore, your body may be retaining water to help "heal". I started working out last week and went up/didnt lose as well, once my body got used to it and I wasnt as sore doing the workout I lost a lot. Everyone is different. Watch Biggest Loser, they bust their butts and some weeks will lose 5 pounds, the next gain 7. It happens, you will learn your body over time.
