Just curious what your thoughts are on getting your little baby's ears pierced?
We got ODD's ears pierced after her 6 month tetanus shot. They looked so cute, and now at 3 years old she loves wearing earrings.. she thinks they look pretty! :)
I had hers done at Doc's Office at 2month Visit, Quick and painless...
I waited til Kylie could tell me she wanted them, she got them pierced for her 2nd or 3rd birthday... but I'm considering piercing Everlie's when she's pretty little though.
I'm so torn on this subject... my sisters and I were just talking about it this weekend.
My mom waited until I was able to let her know that I wanted them done... which wasn't until I was 7.As cute as I think they look on little girls, i'm concerned about infection, having her play/pull at the earrings (my niece is constantly playing with her ears at 11 months old) and just how painful it could be for them.
Alliesauce.. Everlie!!!!!! :O) LOVE it... I was going to spell it like that!! Congrats!!!!
My mom waited and by the time I got the 'balls' to get it done I was in college and was dragged kicking and screaming by my friends. It was an awful experience. My mom tried to get me in to have it done when I was in middle school and I was TERRIFIED, but so jealous of the girls who had them.
If we have a girl, it will be done when she is young. . .I don't want her having the experience I did. I don't know any women who don't have their ears pierced, it's rare anyways, and so I can't imagine our little girl saying 'why did you pierce me ears? ? ? ?'. I believe she would want them done no matter what, just as I wish my mom had done mine when I was little.
I am extremely against piercing a child's ears until they are old enough to make their own decision about it. I have 2 teenage girls who both decided it was worth it around age 8-9. They were old enough to understand that it hurts like heck, and they would have to deal with the healing process and possible infection.
IMHO, there is no reason to put a baby through pain and possible complications for nothing but your own vanity. Believe me, the baby won't care if her ears are "pretty". When she is old enough to care, she can tell you.
I do not have a daughter, but if I do in the future, I will wait until she tells me she wants them done and can take care of them. I think I had mine done when I was in fourth grade. I kind of see it as a rite of passage and something for mother and daughter to do together. I wouldnt want to make that decision for her as a baby or take away the fun of it when shes older.
Thanks hottiebun, we decided on that spelling to go with big sister's name. :) I love ie spellings, I guess!! :)
Sidenote- Kylie's ears never got infected. However, I got mine pierced when I was 8 and mine got infected ALL.THE.TIME. I think because I was old enough to try to take them out myself and change my earrings, and I was always trying to play with them to show them off to my friends, etc. :)
We're planning on having Coralie's done for Christmas, as kind of a Christmas gift for her and for us... hehe. I know there are so many mixed feelings on it though, thanks for your opinions and experiences! :)
If I ever have a girl, I will let her decide if she wants her ears pierced or not. When/if she tells me she wants it, we will go get it done.
My sister got my niece's pierced at 6 months or something like that. I wasn't totally for it, but they do look adorable & they didn't seem to cause her much pain or anything. While my sis is not hispanic, her husband is & I know this is quite common in the hispanic culture.
Whenever I have a girl (hoping for a boy for this one, my first so he can be the big brother and look out for his sisters : ) I will have her ears piecred when she's a baby. It might hurt but she won't remember it and won't have to fear getting it done when she's older and really knows what pain is.
My Mom brought me and my sisters when we were 3 months old or so. None of us remember a thing. I don't see a problem with taking them early on.
I still remember the day my mom took me to the mall to get my ears pierced. It wasn't that painful...and I loved the fact that I got to decide. It was a fun mother/daughter experience and I want the same for my daughter so I am going to wait until she decides she wants them pierced :)
My mom waited til I wanted them (I was 5). I love being able to remember when it happened. Then in HS I got my cartilidge pierced. In college I got my belly button pierced (and that was the most painful of them all!).If/when we have a little girl, it will definitely be when she is older and asks for it.
Where I live there is no studio or whatever you call such place, that will pierce a newborn. Minimum age is 6yrs over here. If this baby is a girl, she wont get her ears pierced 'till she asks for it. My mom did the exact same for my sister & me.
I dont see a problem with it at all... babies who have it done at a young age dont remember a thing...
Personally, I had mine done when I was 3 and I remember wanting my ears pierced like the big girls so bad... I think its fun to let a little want to get them done and to take her, its an experience she will remember forever :)
I didn't think anything of the whole process till I was in a mall one day and a lady had her baby girl's ears pierced. The cry she gave almost made me cry. I know if I ever have a daughter I'll wait till she tells me she wants them.
