Gift Table: Put @ Ceremony Site & Cocktail Hour?

I'm finishing up my details and I need some advice. The gift table will be at the entrance to our ceremony site before the wedding. Cocktail hour is immediately following (it's a short walk across the street at our venue). Do I need to have a gift table there as well, or is the one at the ceremony sufficient? I'm thinking if someone has a gift they would bring it to the ceremony with them, not go get it after the ceremony and bring it to cocktail hour but I don't know the general consensus!

Normally, the gift table is at the reception. I personally never seen a gift table at the ceremony.

Are you not having a reception, just cocktail hour?

Hmm.. a wedding I went to recently had the gift table set up at the ceremony site and we brought our gift and left it there before being seated.

We are having a cocktail hour and reception (both at the same location but cocktail hour is outside and then we will open the doors for people to come inside for the reception).

Now I'm really confused!! Ha.

I don't see why a gift table can't be at the ceremony, but how will you get all the gifts?  Will you have someone retrieve them when the reception is over?

I agree about having one only at the reception. :)

I agree about the reception only. Someone would have to transport the gifts twice, from ceremony to reception location and then pack up for the night. During the transport something could get lost or damaged.

Ok, so does having it next to the guestbook table at the cocktail hour seem right?

What all goes at the ceremony site? Just the guestbook table?

Yes, normally the gift table is near the guestbook. The guestbook is normally at the reception site too.

For the ceremony, the only thing that is there are the things you are using in the ceremony (unity candle, sand ceremony, etc.)

At least that is my experience.

Where ever you place it at the reception site, just make sure it can viewed by all. I would hate to see or hear about something being stolen. Not trying to say your guests but anyone including your venue staff or someone walking off the street is capable.

Since they are not in the same location, I wouldn't worry about it.

But I have seen weddings where the ceremony and reception are at the same place where the bride placed a gift table outside of the room.
